Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has checked himself into a rehabilitation facility, his attorney told the California Post on Wednesday.
Last week, a lawsuit came to light in which a woman accused Nacua of biting her shoulder during a night out on New Year’s Eve and making derogatory comments about Jewish people. The complaint accused Nacua of gender violence, negligence and assault and battery.
His attorney, Levi McCathern, denied any such comments were made but called the biting “horseplay” in comments to multiple media outlets.
McCathern told the California Post that Nacua had checked into rehab prior to those allegations being made public.
“He’s scheduled to be there for a while longer,” McCathern told The California Post, adding that Nacua aims “to improve his overall behavior in every aspect of his life that he can do it.”
The Rams have been aware of the allegations against Nacua since New Year’s Eve, and the team has been in the process of gathering additional information, head coach Sean McVay said at the NFL’s league meetings on Monday.
“I trust this kid’s heart,” McVay said. “Love him, put your arm around him, want to continue to help him grow and really get all the appropriate facts before I kind of rush to judgment on that particular situation.”
