Four get away following smash-and-grab jewelry robbery at Sunvalley Shopping Center

CONCORD — Four people armed with hammers took jewelry from a store during a smash-and-grab robbery at the Sunvalley Shopping Center on Wednesday, police said.

The robbery went down about 12:15 p.m. at the Piercing Pagoda kiosk located on the upper level of the mall.

In a statement, police said the group smashed a display case and took an undetermined amount of jewelry. Police added that all four suspects escaped in a dark-colored SUV. It was last seen leaving the property onto Sunvalley Boulevard.

Police did not have any descriptions of the suspects.

Police said an investigation indicated that the group robbed the store without firing a gun, though officers originally were dispatched to the scene on reports that there were possible gunshots inside the mall.

An employee working at the store emerged without any serious injuries despite being pepper-sprayed by at least one of the suspects, police said.
