Prince William is now more wealthy than his father King Charles III, according to a new report.

Yearly accounts for the Sovereign Grant have now been published, revealing that William has a net worth of £1.2billion via the Duchy of Cornwall, which he inherited after becoming heir to the throne four years ago.

He has also paid more than £20million in tax since becoming Prince of Wales.

The figures have showed for the first time that William is richer than his father, after receiving a private income of £21.6 million in 2025-26.

In contrast, Charles was listed in the Sunday Times Rich List as having a personal fortune of £640 million.

The Sovereign Grant is the funding from the Treasury that is used by the royal household to pay for official duties.

In a bid to be more transparent with the way the royal family is funded, both King Charles and William have revealed their private tax payments.

Figures show William contributed £7.76million in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25 and £8.34million in 2023-24.

It comes after William decided he will no longer personally benefit from the controversial £1.5million annual rent generated by the abandoned Dartmoor Prison.

Earlier this week it was also revealed that Charles and Queen Camilla will not be moving into Buckingham Palace despite £370million worth of refurbishment work being finished next year.

The 10-year renovation plan is near the verge of completion, but the pair will not return to the historic home as their official residence.

The palace will remain ‘monarchy HQ’ but Charles has decided that Clarence House will be his official London home for the rest of his reign.

‘His Majesty retains huge affection for Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role in royal and public life,’ said a palace spokesperson.

‘It will be a buzzing hive of royal activity in every other way’.

Earlier this month, William was spotted at Royal Ascot with The Princess of Wales.

The pair arrived at the prestigious event in Berkshire in a carriage, where they greeted crowds.
