El Pollo Loco is now serving street corn quesadillas

El Pollo Loco’s new Loaded Quesadillas are as loaded as they can be while still being handheld, according to the Costa Mesa-based restaurant chain.

It introduced two limited-time quesadillas in late June. The Queso Loaded Chicken Quesadilla features citrus-grilled chicken breast, jack cheese, queso blanco, tortilla strips and the chain’s creamy cilantro sauce. A Street Corn Loaded Chicken Quesadilla includes chicken, corn, chili lime seasoning and crumbled cotija.

It was fun for El Pollo Loco’s chefs to find a way to put corn kernels into a handheld, according to representatives.

El Pollo Loco describes both items as high-protein. The queso quesadilla has 56 grams of protein but also has a high calorie count, 1,080, and 68 grams of fat. The street corn quesadilla has 54 grams of protein and packs 940 calories with a total of 56 grams of fat.

They cost around $8.59 by themselves or $10.99 for a combo with chips, salsa and a regular soft drink.

The chain already has a cheese quesadilla on its menu and a Salsa Verde Quesadilla made with jack cheese and avocado salsa.

El Pollo Loco has also introduced iced coffees for a limited time. Among them is ChataCoffee, a horchata-flavored cold beverage with cinnamon and vanilla flavors and a “gentle caffeine boost.” Customers can get it with or without vanilla cold foam. Iced Coffee Cream has the cold foam but not the horchata flavor.

El Pollo Loco recently moved into new headquarters about a mile from South Coast Plaza. Facilities include an innovation kitchen.
