The BBC has axed six stars from the Radio 1 airwaves in a huge shakeup announced as ‘schedule changes’, starting from September.

In an effort to bring some fresh energy into the station, Rickie Haywood-Williams, Melvin Odoom, Dean McCullough, Nat O’Leary, James Cusack and Swarzy have all been cut.

‘We thank them for their passion, creativity and dedication and wish them all the very best for whatever comes next,’ the BBC wrote on Instagram.

Stars like GK Barry, Charley Marlowe, and Emil Franchi will be stepping up while beloved show Radio 1’s Live Lounge sees Jeremiah Asiamah join Charlie Hedges.

Lauren Layfield will be launching the brand-new The Official Chart: First Look from Birmingham.

In a farewell to the station, Melvin, who hosted Live Lounge with Charlie and Rickie, reflected on ‘seven years since [he] first stepped into the Radio 1 studio’.

‘Presenting on this station has been a dream, especially since, as some of you will know, my radio career actually started at the BBC as a broadcast assistant for BBC 1Xtra!’ he wrote. ‘So, when we got the call to come over to Radio 1 while we were at Kiss, we couldn’t believe it!’
