Breaking down the Bears’ Monday training camp practice:
What happened
It was a run-heavy practice for their first day in pads, and coach Ben Johnson got his first look at an offensive line that’s working to come together amid changes at center and left tackle.
It’s still a competition at the latter position, and newcomer Jedrick Wills got a shot with the first team. Braxton Jones remains the favorite to win the starting job, but Johnson said Wills is “firmly in the mix.” Theo Benedet and Kiran Amegadjie are competing as well.
One-on-one fun
Before the Bears got into team drills, they ran one-on-ones and delivered some highlights as the wide receivers took on the defensive backs. Luther Burden made a tremendous catch against very good coverage from Tyrique Stevenson on a Caleb Williams pass deep down the right side, and Kalif Raymond shook Jaylon Johnson with a stutter step to beat him deep as well.
Monangai returns
No. 2 running back Kyle Monangai, who sustained a minor muscle injury the first day of training camp, was back and in full pads Tuesday. Johnson indicated it’s not a significant concern going forward.
What’s next?
The Bears will practice in pads again Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
Bryant, the gem of free agency for the Bears, got hurt in a one-on-one drill Monday.

This is the third preseason in 12 years the Bears will have the same head coach, offensive play-caller and starting quarterback working together as they did the year before. They should act like it.
