Breaking down the Bears’ Tuesday training camp practice:
What happened
In the last drill, a struggling offenxse took over at their own 47, down five, with 54 seconds left. The Bears committed two false starts but drove to the 22 with 3 seconds to play.
Quarterback Caleb Williams then threw a seam route to Luther Burden, who was hammered by linebacker Devin Bush. The ball fell incomplete at the goal line. Burden walked off slowly.
“I was going for the ball,” Bush said. “There was nothing malicious.”
Burden said the hit was “not typical” but was more disappointed by the result.
“I expect to catch every ball,” he said.
Fight!
The first fight of camp: defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg, a sixth-round pick, tackled offensive lineman Caden Barnett following a play. Defensive end Montez Sweat celebrated the hit.
Who’s watching
Former Saints tackle Terron Armstead, who played under offensive line coach Dan Roushar in New Orleans, and former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt chatted with general manager Ryan Poles. Fox host Curt Menefee watched, too.
Off to Canton
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will miss Saturday’s practice to watch Drew Brees, whom he coached in New Orleans, get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Injury report
Cornerback Terell Smith missed practice after getting hurt Monday.
What’s next
The Bears practice Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
