Danny Cipriani and AnnaLynne McCord have officially tied the knot – but it appears their controversial attempt to get guests to help foot the bill didn’t entirely go to plan.
The former England rugby star, 38, and 90210 actress, 39, married on Saturday in an ‘elegant bohemian’ ceremony held in the back garden of their Los Angeles home.
It was a considerably more intimate affair than your typical celebrity wedding, with AnnaLynne wearing a sheer white lace gown and floral embroidered veil while Danny opted for an all-black suit.
But in the weeks leading up to the big day, it wasn’t the dress or guest list getting people talking. Instead, it was the couple’s unusual decision to effectively crowdfund their wedding.
Danny and AnnaLynne created a public page on US website Honeyfund, asking friends and family to contribute towards individual elements of the celebration rather than buying traditional presents.
Suggested contributions ranged from $100 (£74) to $600 (£445), covering everything from their marriage licence and wedding cake to catering, booze, photography and even construction of the venue.
Now the wedding has been and gone, however, several of those requests remain conspicuously unfulfilled.
According to The Sun, eight $600 (£445) slots towards construction of the wedding venue were still available, alongside five $200 (£148) contributions towards reception drinks.
Seven $250 (£185) catering slots also apparently went unclaimed, as did five $300 (£222) photography contributions and two $500 (£371) slots towards the rehearsal dinner.
Perhaps their loved ones simply drew the line at being asked to buy their own booze.
Guests did stump up for some important parts of the occasion, though, including $100 towards the marriage licence and another $100 for reception music.
The couple also received $600 towards their wedding cake and the same amount for floral arrangements.
The unusual registry had already caused a stir when it emerged last month, with the total value of the listed requests at the time reaching more than £10,000, excluding additional cash gifts.
While honeymoon funds have become an increasingly common alternative for couples who don’t need another toaster, Danny and AnnaLynne’s decision to break down the actual costs of staging their wedding proved rather more divisive.
The backlash became so vicious that AnnaLynne has since claimed she and her new husband received death threats.
Speaking to The Sun from a Hollywood hotel, she said: ‘I was told I was despicable – and that I was trying to extort money from my wedding guests.’
Some critics apparently even paid for the privilege of telling them exactly what they thought.
‘People actually donated ten dollars towards the wedding so they could write on the site that Danny and I were disgusting,’ she claimed. ‘There were even death threats.’
Despite the controversy, the pair went ahead with their celebrations over the weekend and finally became husband and wife after a romance stretching back a decade.
They first met through celebrity dating app Raya around 10 years ago and embarked on an on-off relationship lasting approximately four years.
Their first attempt at making things work came to an unusual end in 2020 when Danny called AnnaLynne to reveal another woman, Victoria Rose O’Callaghan, was pregnant.
He married Victoria, a neuroscience practitioner, the following year, but the couple announced their separation in November 2023.
After news of the breakdown became public, AnnaLynne decided to get back in touch with her former flame and the pair eventually rekindled their relationship in 2024.
She previously claimed Danny had told her he had loved her ‘since the day he met’ her.
Their reunion wasn’t entirely smooth sailing, with the couple briefly announcing another split in early 2025 before getting back together once again. This time, however, Danny decided to make things rather more permanent.
He proposed to AnnaLynne on Christmas Day, getting down on one knee in front of the Christmas tree at her home.
Months later, the couple have finally made it down the aisle – or, more accurately, across the back garden.
And while their friends may not have collectively ticked off every last item on the wedding bill, Danny and AnnaLynne got their ‘elegant bohemian’ celebration in the end.
