Bears training camp report No. 18: Bears RT Darnell Wright leaves with apparent arm injury

Breaking down the Bears’ Tuesday training camp practice:

Bears right tackle Darnell Wright left late practice Tuesday with what appeared to be a right arm injury.

Wright went to sideline during red-zone work and was getting checked by a trainer. As he walked to Halas Hall, he was flexing his elbow.

Wright played through a torn UCL in his right elbow most of last season and delivered the best performance of his career. He was selected second-team All-Pro and signed a four-year, $116 million contract extension three weeks ago. He has missed two games in his career.

Without him, the Bears moved Theo Benedet to his spot with the first-string offensive line.

The line already is working through some uncertainty after center Drew Dalman retired and Ozzy Trapilo suffered a major knee injury in the playoffs. Former Patriots starter Garrett Bradbury is the new center, while left tackle is a question mark as Trapilo ramps up toward being able to practice in full.

Bears coach Ben Johnson called left tackle “a hot spot” before practice Tuesday and said he’s still not settled on a starter. Braxton Jones has been leading the competition.

Williams quiet
It wasn’t a great afternoon overall for quarterback Caleb Williams, who threw incomplete on 5 of 6 passes in seven-on-seven work (one of those was a drop by running back D’Andre Swift and another was a heave out of the back of the end zone). He had two sharp passes to wide receiver Rome Odunze, one a 30-yarder over the middle and another in the back of the end zone during a red-zone period.

Dexter’s exit
Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter left near the end of practice, though it was not immediately clear whether he was injured. Rookie Jordan van den Berg took his spot in the first-string defensive line.

Quick kicks
It was a relatively light day for kicker Cairo Santos, who made all his field goals, hitting from 30, 33 and 36 yards.

Welcome back
Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent returned after missing a little over a week with a hamstring injury, though Case Keenum took a share of the second-team snaps. At cornerback, Tyrique Stevenson was full-go for practice for the first time in a few weeks, and Terell Smith returned as well.

What’s next?
The Bears will have a short practice Wednesday morning before flying to Nashville, Tenn. for the rest of the week.
