Dogs will have their day this Wednesday at places that serve food to hoomans.
Aug. 26 is International Dog Day – also called National Dog Day – and in addition to pup cups on Starbucks’ secret menu, there are canine freebies out there. Many promotions are partnering with organizations that help animals in need.
These businesses have announced promotions on their websites, on social media or in news releases.
Dunkin’: The Massachusetts coffee giant is continuing its partnership with dog toy company BARK to raise funds for Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. Dunkin’ will be offering limited-edition BARK x Dunkin’ bandanas and plush toys on Wednesday at a few locations. One is in Southern California at 3200 Yorba Linda Blvd., Fullerton. dunkindonuts.com
Dutch Bros: Customers can get a “mystery dog bandana” with every medium or large drink purchase while supplies last, beginning at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. There are three designs. dutchbros.com
Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar: Through Thursday, Aug. 27, the Orange County chain will donate $1 to Pet Partners for every dog meal ordered in-restaurant. Customers will also receive a free dog meal card during the promotion. Dogs are welcome on Lazy Dog patios, and the first 50 at participating locations will receive a free bandana while supplies last on Wednesday. Dog meals are grilled hamburger patties or chicken breasts served with brown rice and vegetables. See’s Candies: Throughout August – or DOGust, as the 150-year-old company calls it – customers can receive a free dog treat. The chain is selling a new chocolate-filled Paw Box and a branded bandana. DOGust supports the 15/10 Foundation, which helps shelter dogs with medical needs. Incidentally, with pumpkin spice latte season underway, See’s offers Pumpkin Pie Truffles.
