The Sky signed Kate Martin to a development contract, the team announced Wednesday. Martin had a promising first two seasons in the WNBA but hasn’t stuck on a roster this season. She was cut by the Valkyries at the beginning of the year and then signed to a development contract by the Sparks, who later waived her.
In her rookie season with the Aces she shot 35.5% from three-point range. She was then selected by the Valkyries in the 2025 expansion draft, where she became a key piece of their bench rotation.
The Sky have only four regular season games remaining, but the benefit of signing a development player now is they will retain her rights for next season.
They had one development spot open after forward Maddy Westebeld was poached by the Mercury.
The veteran point guard has been shut down for the season and remains under contract through 2027. But after a rough first year together, Diggins and the Sky have reason to reevaluate whether they want to run it back.

With the Sky eliminated from playoff contention and only four games remaining in the season, there was little incentive for her to return. She’s been rehabbing a knee injury since early July.

That’s the silver lining coach Tyler Marsh sees as Taylor works through her struggles and the Sky try to regroup after playoff elimination.
