High temperatures and humidity could make it feel like 104 degrees in the Chicago area on Friday, as dangerous heat hits the area for the fourth day in a row.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory until 10 p.m. Friday for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 95 degrees in the afternoon, according to the weather service. The humidity will make it feel more like 104 degrees.
Due to the heat, Chicago Public Schools said it would cancel outdoor activities or, if possible, hold them inside to “ensure students and staff are healthy, safe, and comfortable” for at least the second day in a row.
A chance of evening thunderstorms will be followed by an expected overnight low of 74 degrees, according to the forecast.
Chicago has been under a heat-related advisory every day since Tuesday, when the temperature at O’Hare Airport peaked at 95 degrees. Wednesday’s recorded high was 96 degrees. Thursday’s was 91 degrees.
The heat is forecast to be more extreme farther south of Chicago on Friday, as it has been for the entire week. The heat index on Friday could rise to the 105-110 degree range in Will County and parts of DuPage County, according to the weather service.
National Weather Service forecast for Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.
