A three vehicle chain-reaction crash left a 95-year-old woman dead Wednesday evening on the Lower West Side.
Guadalupe Almendarez, 95, was westbound in a grey car when it rear-ended a black truck stopped at a light about 5:35 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 18th Street. The collision caused the truck to hit a silver car also stopped at the light, police said.
Almendarez, of the Clearing neighborhood, was taken to Stroger Hospital initially in critical condition, but she was pronounced dead at 7:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
No one else hurt and the Major Accidents Investigation Unit is probing the crash.
