What’s at stake? Both teams are trying to get back on track after losing efforts, or four in a row in the Arizona’s case. Both teams are also looking for their first divisional win, which in the Rams’ case is important because the 49ers are starting to run away with the NFC West.
Who’s better? By a pretty wide margin, the Rams. Far better quarterback, far more experienced head coach, far deeper roster, et cetera, et cetera.
Matchup to watch: Cardinals tight end Trey McBride vs. Rams defensive back Quentin Lake. McBride is typically the focal point of the Arizona offense, but even more so now with wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. traded to Houston and running back Jeremiyah Love injured. If McDuffie can’t play, Lake will get the majority of snaps against McBride out of the slot. He’ll need to use his length to try to disrupt McBride, one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL.
Rams win if: They start out fast and score touchdowns in their first two drives, putting the Cardinals in an early hole and putting pressure on quarterback Jacoby Brissett. …
Fantasy sleeper: Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier. Without Love, Allgeier will get the bulk of Arizona’s carries. And the Cardinals by nature like to run the ball, whether their top guy is available or not. So expect Allgeier to get plenty of work.
Prediction: Rams 42, Cardinals 17. Beat reporter’s record: 2-1 overall; 2-1 against the spread.
