Chad Michael Murray has revealed that he is more than ready to bring back some of his most beloved characters!

The beloved actor, 42, is a veteran heartthrob and is set to step into another charming role in a romantic comedy as he acts opposite Brooke Shields in Mother of the Bride for Netflix.

Of course, he is best known for playing Lucas Scott in One Tree Hill, Tristin in Gilmore Girls, and perhaps most iconically, Austin Ames in A Cinderella Story.

The 2004 film, starring Hilary Duff was an instant classic which reinvented the classic fairytale, turning it into a high school drama set in California where a poor girl (diner worker) fell for a prince (the high school quarterback) after several months of correspondence (instant messaging on internet chat rooms).

Cheesy it may sound, but popular it most certainly was, the film grossed $47.53million against its £15million budget and was beloved by teens and young adults throughout the noughties.

Now, Chad has made an exciting announcement for fans of Noughties rom-coms, as he spoke about wanting to revive this classic film with a sequel!

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor revealed: ‘My daughter saw Cinderella Story, that was a really interesting and fun moment. Where she looks at me and she goes, “You need to make another one of those, Daddy”.’

He added that it’s been two decades since the film debuted: ‘It’s been twenty years, can you believe that?’

When asked what he thinks his character, Austin Ames is doing now, Chad replied that he thinks he’s ready to step back into the shoes of his beloved character.

‘As we know, things don’t always work out so I think they went their separate ways and we bring them back now, post splits from their significant others, into a new Cinderella story.’

When asked if he had spoken to co-star Hilary about this idea, he responded:

‘No, but here you go, Hil,’ he turned to the camera: ‘from me to you, let’s do it.’

Hilary has just given birth to her fourth child, so perhaps she isn’t just yet ready to take on a blockbuster sequel, but fans can hope that the Lizzie McGuire star may be as keen as we are to see what happened to Sam Montgomery.

Chad was also asked about another beloved character Jake, who he portrayed in Freaky Friday opposite Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee-Curtis as their love interest.

The actor said he would bring his character back in a heartbeat.

‘How great would that be, to bring Jake [his character] back? If Jake is invited back, Jake will be there,’ he promised.

As luck would have it Freaky Friday 2 film was confirmed last year with Jamie Lee and Lindsay both confirmed to lead the cast.

This means fans can get excited about the small chance of Jake making an appearance or cameo in this upcoming movie.

Chad’s movie Mother of the Bride is available to stream on Netflix.
