Grunge icon and L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has died aged 59, just days after her cancer diagnosis was made public.

Finch had been due to join the all-girl music outfit on their final tour before it was revealed earlier this week that she needed ‘extensive medical care’ after being diagnosed with an ‘aggressive’ form of brain cancer.

On Saturday night, her loved ones posted to Finch’s official Instagram page to reveal that she had died.

‘We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch,’ the post began, alongside a photo of the musician smiling as she posed in front of a wall display of guitars.

‘Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even more so.

‘We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time.’

L7 – whose longest-standing line-up was comprised of Finch, Suzi Gardner, Dee Plakas and Donita Sparks – were set to embark on their Last Hurrah Tour in October, 40 years after first forming in Los Angeles.

The band had initially set up a GoFundMe in Finch’s name after revealing that ‘following multiple surgeries and serious complications’, their bandmate required ‘extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support’.

They also explained that, while the tour ‘was planned along with Jennifer when all four of us were in good health and spirits’, she had asked them to continue without her.

After posting about Finch’s GoFundMe, her band and family thanked fans and friends for the support and added: ‘We’ve been sharing your comments with Jennifer, and she’s really enjoying them.’

A photo was later shared of Finch revealing a scar on the side of her head from surgery after the campaign reached its goal, allowing the music star ‘to receive the care she needs in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by the people who love her’.

Jennifer Finch vs. Brain Cancer: It?s Time to Make Noise https://www.gofundme.com/f/jennifer-finch-vs-brain-cancer-its-time-to-make-noise Jennifer Finch, bassist and vocalist for the 1990s grunge band L7, has been diagnosed with brain cancer and pulled out of the group's farewell tour. Finch, 59, was one of the earliest and longest-lasting members of the girl band, which she joined in 1986, the year after they first formed in Los Angeles. She also featured in the 1994 Doll Parts music video for Courtney Love's group Hole as a replacement for bassist Kristen Pfaff, who had died at 27 of a heroin overdose. Although she left L7 in 1996 and the band broke up altogether in 2001, she got back together with her old colleagues when L7 reformed in 2014. This May, they announced that they would be embarking on their final tour called The Last Hurrah 2026 with dates to begin this October. However L7 released a joint Instagram statement on Monday announcing Finch's withdrawal because of an 'aggressive' brain tumor.

‘Any additional funds raised will go toward preserving Jennifer’s artistic legacy and supporting her upcoming creative projects,’ the post added.

L7, of which Finch was a founding member, exploded in the punk scene in the late 80s, touring and releasing four albums before their hiatus in 1996. They reformed in 2014, dropping another record.

‘Heartbreaking! There aren’t a lot of women that give their lives to rock n roll, to punk, to being in a band of all women… I loved you, buddy! You were one of the coolest girls that ever walked the earth! Thank you Jen, for all you’ve done for the rest of us girls, that are giving our lives for rock n roll, for punk, to be in a band of all women! See you soonish, sister!’ commented Bad Cop Bad Cop’s Stacey Kelvin Dee.

‘My dear friend. Gone way too soon. Thank you for the 21 years of friendship and inspiration and sisterhood and encouragement. I thought we had more time. Our book swap. Our goals for this year. So very sad 😢 You are a forever a legend,’ added Shiragirl’s Shira Yevin.

Music executive and former riot grrrl movement pioneer Molly Neuman added: ‘She is so loved. Her legacy will carry on forever.’

Just hours ahead of announcing her death, Finch’s account had shared a post from bandmate Donita Sparks, 63, who uploaded a photo of them together and shared that she was ‘sending much love and strength to my beautiful, talented bandmate’.
