<p id=”par-1_23″><em>Grantchester</em>’s unlikely crime-solving duo of Reverend Alphy Kottaram (Rishi Nair) and DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) are about to tackle their last cases. </p>
<p id=”par-2_67″>The 11th season of the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/grantchester-season-4-why-james-norton-is-leaving-the-show.html/”>cozy mystery series</a> premieres this June on PBS. Sadly for fans, it will be the last for the show, which premiered in 2014 with James Norton in the role of sleuthing vicar Sidney Chambers. <p id=”par-3_41″><em>Grantchester </em>has been a fan-favorite show on both sides of the Atlantic since it debuted more than a decade ago. Why wrap things up now? Showrunner Daisy Coulam weighed in on the decision in an August 2025 interview with <a href=”https://www.tvinsider.com/1205936/grantchester-season-10-finale-ending-explained-final-season-details-exclusive/”>TV Insider</a>. </p>
<p id=”par-4_52″>“From the time we started planning it, we were thinking of it as the last, and that we should go out on a high. It’s been a good run and we’ve had such a lovely time,” she said, noting that it was both a financial and creative decision to conclude the series. </p>
<p id=”par-5_7″>“Money always is a thing,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-6_20″>While Coulam said the time is right to close the door on <em>Grantchester, </em>that doesn’t make it an easy goodbye. </p>
<p id=”par-7_35″>“I think I’m in denial,” she said. “I’m going to get emotional. It’s over a quarter of my lifetime I’ve been on this show and it is such an integral part of who I am.”</p>

<p id=”par-9_66″><em>Grantchester </em>Season 10 ended on cliffhanger, as Alphy confronted an unseen woman he believed to be his birth mother. Viewers will see more of Alphy’s mother in season 11, Coulam said, though the reunion “probably won’t go smoothly.” Reconnecting with the woman who gave him up for adoption will also prompt a crisis of faith for the vicar, according to PBS’s description of the upcoming season. </p>
<p id=”par-10_75″>Other <em>Grantchester </em>characters are also at a crossroads in season 11, which takes place in 1963. Geordie is considering a promotion that could end his partnership with his friend, while his wife Cathy’s (Kacey Ainsworth) career advancement comes at a cost. Leonard (Al Weaver) discovers his paternal instincts and the newly-married Miss Scott (Melissa Johns) is expecting a baby. (The returning cast also includes Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs C and Bradley Hall as Larry Peters.</p>
<p id=”par-11_36″>As for the crimes? Alphy and Georgie will investigate a killing at a drive-in movie and corruption within the Church. Plus, there’s an Agatha Christie-style locked-room mystery on a train, and Alphy is the prime suspect.</p>
