A popular Oscar-winning movie that’s been dubbed the best film of the decade by fans is finally available to stream in the UK after a months-long wait.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle After Another was one of the most talked about releases of 2025.
Written and directed by seasoned filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood), this was the film that finally made him an Academy Award winning filmmaker after going into the prestigious evening as a fourteen-time nominee.
It ultimately picked up six gongs, including best film, best director for Anderson and best supporting actor for Sean Penn’s villainous turn as the psychopathic military police officer Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw (who didn’t show up to the glamorous evening).
DiCaprio also netted himself another best actor Oscar nomination, taking his total to eight overall and one win for The Revenant in 2016.
One Battle After Another is a thriller and biting political satire, loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, about paranoid and washed-up revolutionary Bob (DiCaprio), who is forced to spring into action when his self-reliant daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti) goes missing.

Others also praised it as ‘exceptional’, with several noting it as the best film of the last 10 years – which chimed with critics’ giddy initial reactions ahead of its release last September.
It’s joined the likes of Sinners, Dune: Part One and Two and both the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises on HBO Max, in a tempting offer for new subscribers alongside hit shows including The Pitt and Euphoria.
