“Gen V,” a spin-off of Amazon Prime Video series “The Boys,” launched on the streamer in 2023. The show, which centers on a younger group of characters, earned early acclaim and returned for a second season in 2025. Unfortunately, Prime Video has pulled the plug, but has confirmed a new spin-off series, “Vought Rising,” for 2027.
According to Deadline, “Gen V” producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg released a statement. They said, “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, weâre committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ charactersâ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon.
They added, “Youâll see them again.” “Gen V” season two starred Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Greg Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Hamish Linklater. Late actor Chance Perdomo was also one of the show’s stars in its first season. Sadly, he passed away in a motorcycle accident while on the way to set for season two.
Audiences and Critics Loved ‘Gen V’
GettyBecause “The Boys” is such a beloved series, there was considerable excitement for “Gen V.” This is reflected in the show’s overall reception, as critics have given it an 94% rating. Likewise, audiences also appreciated it, giving it a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, it should be noted that “Gen V” season two saw a decline in reactions on Rotten Tomatoes, though still positive. Critics gave season 1 a 97%, whereas season two scored a 91%. The same is true for audiences, as the freshman offering garnered a 77% and the second season came in at 71%.
The show also fared well on Metacritic, where it currently sits at 73 out of 100. This puts it in the generally favorable territory. However, the audience rating isn’t as high, currently at a 5.9 out of 10, demonstrating mixed or average reviews.
Viewership Started Strong For Season 2
GettyTracking ratings in the era of streaming isn’t always easy, as the numbers aren’t always readily available. However, The Wrap confirmed that the “Gen V” season two premiere drop on Prime Video delivered 424 million minutes viewed in its first week. Notably, Prime released three episodes on September 17.
This was enough for it to debut at number eight on the Original Series chart. However, it seems the show’s popularity may have waned by the end of the season. Notably, the show’s creator, Kripke, spoke to The Wrap in October 2025, essentially urging fans to tune into the show if they wanted a season three.
He told the outlet, “We’re fortunate in that weâve always gotten a lot of support. We still have to deliver ratings. It’s a very classic, old-school TV thing, but we need viewers to show up to justify more of them.”
The “Gen V” creator continued, “We have a plan for Gen V Season 3, and weâre psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch Season 2 to justify Season 3. Nowâs the time that theyâre paying attention to the numbers. So donât watch even a year from now.
Turn on Prime [Video] and watch it now. If enough people watch then weâll get a Season 3. Same applies to Vought Rising Season 1. We have plans for a Season 2, if we can. Theyâve been nothing but supportive, and theyâre giving us our opportunities. But itâs a business and we also have to deliver. So hopefully the audience shows up.”
