<p id=”par-2_78″>Mica Miller died on April 27, 2024, while she was estranged from her husband, John-Paul Miller. The death, initially ruled a suicide, has gripped headlines in recent days. So, who was Mica exactly? Mica became involved in Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as a teen. John-Paul Miller was the pastor of the church at the time. She even briefly worked as a nanny for John-Paul and his first wife, with whom he shares five children.</p>

They split from their respective spouses and eventually married each other. Mica became a worship leader within the congregation before she and John-Paul split. She died on April 27, 2024, while the couple was estranged. While her death was initially ruled a suicide, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/an-update-on-nancy-guthrie-police-think-they-know-the-motive-behind-the-abduction.html/”>requested the FBI’s help</a> investigating the circumstances just weeks after the official ruling was made. Interviews with John-Paul turned up discrepancies.</p>

<p id=”par-4_42″>While John-Paul has not been charged in connection with causing Mica’s death directly, he has been indicted on separate charges. In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted the former pastor on charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators.</p>
<p id=”par-5_88″>According to the indictment, the cyberstalking charge, described in court filings as “interstate domestic violence,” alleges that from November 2022 until the date of Mica’s death in April 2024, John-Paul used electronic communications with the intent to “kill, injure, harass, intimidate” Mica, or to place her “under surveillance.” Prosecutors argue that his behavior caused Mica to fear for her life. He is also accused of revenge porn and using a tracking device to monitor her movements, even after they split; both allegations are attached to the cyberstalking charge.</p>

<p id=”par-6_46″>The second charge, making false statements to federal investigators, stems from an October 2024 interview with FBI agents following Mica’s death. Authorities claim John-Paul lied directly to federal agents about the volume of calls he placed to Mica in the days and weeks before her death.</p>
<p id=”par-7_69″>John-Paul was arraigned in January 2026 and pleaded not guilty to both federal charges. He insists he is not responsible, in any way, for Mica’s 2024 death, though the charges aren’t really about her death. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison on the cyberstalking count and up to two years on the false statements charge, along with a potential fine of up to $250,000.</p>
<p id=”par-8_22″>John-Paul Miller is currently free on a $100,000 unsecured bond while he awaits trial. A pretrial conference is set for October 6.</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-where-is-solid-rock-church-today”>Where is Solid Rock Church today? </h2>
<p id=”par-9_58″>Following Mica Miller’s death, community outcry led to protests at Solid Rock Church after family members raised the alarm bell over John-Paul Miller’s alleged behavior in the months and weeks before Mica’s death. The protests grew so intense that Solid Rock Church suspended its operations, and, later, sold the building and property where John-Paul Miller built his career.</p>
<p id=”par-10_44″>Once considered a megachurch, Solid Rock became a much smaller congregation, with pop-up services instead. John-Paul Miller rebranded as Mercy Church and continues to lead a small congregation at temporary locations around the Myrtle Beach area. That may change as his trial date looms.</p>
<p id=”par-11_58″>John-Paul Miller has also remarried. He wed a woman named Suzie Skinner in June 2025. Skinner’s first husband, Chris Skinner, died by drowning in a community pool. The late Skinner was paralyzed in a car accident years before his death. According to <a href=”https://people.com/who-is-john-paul-miller-wife-suzie-skinner-12069805″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People</a>, Suzie and John-Paul met at Solid Rock Church, where Suzie and her husband were congregants.</p>
