Delia Smith’s husband Michael Wynn-Jones dies aged 85

Michael Wynn-Jones, the husband of TV chef Delia Smith, has died at the age of 85.
The former journalist and honorary life president of Norwich City FC died peacefully at his home on Monday.
Norwich City, which Smith and Wynn-Jones were majority shareholders of for 28 years, said everyone at the club was ‘deeply saddened’.
‘Michael died peacefully at home on Monday morning, aged 85,’ the club said in a statement.
‘He will be greatly missed. His family are grateful for the wonderful care provided by the community nursing team at St Elizabeth hospice in Ipswich.
‘Our deepest condolences are with Delia and Tom [Smith, the couple’s nephew], and with all of Michael’s family, friends and loved ones. At the family’s request, we ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.’

Wynn-Jones and Smith, who lived in Stowmarket in Suffolk, stepped back from the board of Norwich City last year after agreeing to a deal to reduce their holding to 10 per cent.
Each of them was then made an honorary life president after they stepped away.
After first meeting each other in 1969 at the Daily Mirror magazine, where Wynn-Jones was deputy editor, the couple got married in 1971 and have been married for 55 years.
During their time at Norwich City, Wynn-Jones and Smith oversaw several promotions to the Premier League.
Smith had a more prominent public role at the club, while Wynn-Jones – who first began attending Norwich City games in 1955 at the age of 13 – was reportedly a trusted adviser in the boardroom.
Wynn-Jones worked as a journalist for titles including the Daily Mirror and Spectator and founded his own publishing company, New Crane Publishing, which produced some of Smith’s books as well as the Sainsbury’s magazine.
Norwich City Fans Social Club said in a statement: ‘All of us at NCFSC are devastated to hear the news about Michael Wynn-Jones’s passing. Michael is a true NCFC legend and what he did for the club cannot be underestimated.
‘We are thinking of Delia, Tom and all of Michael’s family at this incredibly sad time. Rest in peace, Michael.’
