
Denzel Washington is celebrating a special day on Sunday, December 28. The star is celebrating his 71st birthday. To mark the occasion, let’s take a look back at the popular actor over the past year.
On January 7, Washington spoke during the posthumous Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for Pulitzer-winning playwright August Wilson.

GettyDenzel Washington Opened Up About Taking Care of His Body as He Ages
In November 2024, Washington addressed taking care of his body as he gets older while talking to Esquire.
“Iâve done a lot of damage to the body. Weâll see. Iâve been clean. Be ten years this December. I stopped at sixty and I havenât had a thimbleâs worth since,” he said while discussing alcohol. “Things are opening up for me nowâlike being seventy. Itâs real. And itâs okay. This is the last chapterâif I get another thirty, what do I want to do? My mother made it to ninety-seven.”
Getty“Iâm doing the best I can. And not only alcoholâforget all that. Strength. About two years ago my good friend, my little brother, Lenny Kravitz, said, D, I wanna hook you up with a trainer,” the star explained.
He continued, “I started with him February of last year. He makes the meals for me and weâre training, and Iâm now 190-something pounds on my way to 185. I was looking at pictures of myself and Pauletta [his wife] at the Academy Awards for Macbeth, and Iâm just looking fat, with this dyed hair, and I said, Those days are over, man. I feel like Iâm getting strong. Strong is important. “
The Star Has Also Talked About His Career as He Gets Older
GettyWhen it comes to Washington’s career as he gets older, he has a few thoughts.
âI will say that as I approached my 70th birthday, between the 65th and 70th birthdays, and understanding and starting to feel like there is some end to this, [I asked myself] âWho would I like to work with before I finish?ââ he told Radio Times in September.
He added, âItâs just where I was at in life, where I am in life, where I was then in lifeâ¦who do I want to work with?â
