The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is just around the corner, with Sweden hosting after Loreen’s success in Liverpool last year.

The Tattoo singer, 40, will be handing over to the Nordic country’s entry this year, Marcus and Martinus, while Olly Alexander represents the United Kingdom.

While Scott Mills, Rylan, Strictly star Richie Anderson and Graham Norton of course will be commentating the semi-finals and grand event in May, Swedish-American actress Malin Åkerman and Swedish comedian Petra Mede will be presenting the spectacle in Malmö.

They follow in the footsteps of Graham, Alesha Dixon and Hannah Waddingham, who hosted last year’s Eurovision, alongside Ukrainian broadcaster Timur Miroshnychenko.

This will be the seventh time Sweden has hosted the contest, and a particularly momentous year, marking the 50th anniversary of Abba winning for Sweden in Brighton in 1974.

Who is Malin Åkerman?

Stockholm-born actress Malin, 45, is known for numerous Hollywood films and for modelling.

She’s also a musician through her work with alternative rock band The Petalstones and has appeared on the American version of The Masked Singer.

Speaking about the new presenting gig, Malin told Eurovision.tv: ‘I can’t really describe my feelings about this.

‘I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true.

‘Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met.’

Malin’s family moved to Canada when she was just two, and began working as a model and actress in America as a teenager.

What films and TV shows has she starred in?

Malin’s big Hollywood break came in 2009, in superhero film Watchmen, based on the graphic novel of the same name.

She played Silk Spectre II in the Zack Snyder movie, but held previous roles in the likes of Lisa Kudrow’s TV series The Comeback, as Juno, and Ben Stiller’s character’s wife Lila in The Heartbreak Kid.

She also starred alongside Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses, playing the lead character’s sister Tess.

Following Watchmen, Malin appeared on Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds’ film The Proposal, and played Vince Vaughn’s character’s wife Ronnie in Couple’s Retreat.

She’s also guest-starred in How I Met Your Mother, and the lead role in sitcom Trophy Wife.

Is she married?

Malin married Petalstones drummer Roberto Zincone in 2007, and welcomed their son together in 2013.

They filed for divorce that same year, and in October 2017, Malin announced her engagement to A Royal Winter actor Jack Donnelly, with the couple marrying the following year.

The 2024 Eurovision grand final will take place on Saturday, May 11, with the semi-finals being held on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.

A total of 37 countries will be competing in this year’s contest, six of which automatically qualified for the final, including reigning winners Sweden and the ‘Big 5’: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Swedish comedian Petra has previously hosted the song contest in 2013 solo and in 2016 with pop singer Mans Zelmerlow, when they both performed Love, Love, Peace, Peace.

The Eurovision Grand Final is on May 11 and will be broadcast on the BBC.
