Ex-gang boss Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis found guilty in murder of Tupac Shakur

Former gang figure Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis has been found guilty of organising the murder of Tupac Shakur.

The killing of the California Love rapper in a drive-by shooting and bringing those responsible to justice has plagued fans and online sleuths for almost 30 years.

Tupac, known as 2Pac, was murdered in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, at the age of 25, while driving with Marion ‘Suge’ Knight.

Now Davis, the ex-gang boss of the Los Angeles South Side Compton Crips, has been found guilty by a jury of orchestrating the hip-hop star’s death.

The 63-year-old was found guilty of first-degree murder in a Las Vegas court.

He denied the charge and plans to appeal it.

The jury is said to have taken under three hours to reach a unanimous verdict, prompting Tupac’s family to celebrate outside the court.

Tupac’s relatives hugged and some cried after the ruling.

Davis has never been accused of firing the gun himself, but under Nevada law, a person can still be charged with first-degree murder.

Darryl Harper, a producer who worked with Tupac, told reporters outside the court: ‘I still miss him. I don’t want to get emotional, but yeah, I still miss him.

‘I’m glad we got a verdict. I had nothing to do with the verdict or anything like that. I’m gonna roll with it, whatever it was but I’m glad we got it. His spirit can fly now, it’s free.’

Tupac was one of the biggest names in the rivalry between the US East Coast and West Coast, which spilt beyond music into real feuds and violence.

Tupac and hip-hop mogul The Notorious BIG, real name Christopher Wallace, were famous rivals, and his death six months later in another shooting has been linked to Tupac’s killing.

How the Tupac murder trial against Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis unfolded

The outcome in the murder trial comes just days before the 30^th anniversary of Tupac Shakur’s death.  

Davis was accused of leading a group of South Side Compton Crips members to kill the star rapper.  

It is said to have been to retaliate for the beating of Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson.  

Davis is understood to have gone ‘hunting’ for Tupac and music boss Knight, according to prosecutor Binu Palal.  

Tupac and Knight were stopped in their BMW at a red light when a Cadillac pulled up next to it. 

The 25-year-old was shot several times, and he died of his injuries six days later.  

Multiple witnesses linked the killing to a feud between the Mob Piru Bloods gang, which Knight was part of, and the South Side Compton Crips.  

Prosecutors have never accused Davis of firing the weapon, and the shooter has not been officially named.  

Davis alleged in an interview with detectives that Anderson fired the gun. Anderson died in 1998. 

The case was brought against Davis after he went public with his claims and published a memoir. This, and audio recordings of secret meetings with investigators, were the main material used by the prosecution.
