The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time – have they changed too much or not enough? (Nintendo)

Goldilocks zone
Loved the preview of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and I’m glad you got to see the Forest Temple as well as the stuff they already showed in the reveal. I was never not going to get it, unless somehow it was a complete disaster, but I don’t feel there was ever a chance of that.

I could go either way on the jumping but feel Nintendo probably made the right choice. It was an unusual feature at the time and I think people would just find it too weird now, since no other game ever did it. As for being 1:1 or changing a lot of it… I’m happy with just nips and tucks here and there.

Something like Resident Evil you have to change a lot because of the fixed camera views (although they still did a great job) but Ocarina Of Time was already fully 3D and to me there’s nothing you definitely need to change. Castle Town was unusual so I get that, but my expectation is that all the other changes are going to be minor, like Forest Temple.

I’d still be happy if there was an extra dungeon or a playable Zelda section or something like that, but I’m fine if there’s not. So far, they seem to have made the right decisions, as far as I’m concerned.

Bigger and bigger
GTA 6 might be 200GB or thereabouts, but what is GTA Online 2 going to be? Most people will probably delete GTA 6 after a while, like any other game, but that monster is going to be a least 200GB as well and constantly added to with DLC.

Rockstar wants GTA 6 to be the only game you ever play but on purpose or not they’ll make it almost impossible to have any other at the same time. Or at least not multiple other games. Not even saying it’s a problem, if you like the game, but another sign of how much GTA 6 is going to take over, not only as soon as it comes out but for months and years afterwards.

If you’re sick of hearing about it now, then I hate to tell you that the worst is yet to come.

Next in line
I would be totally fine with GTA 6 being the start of a new trilogy of games using the same tech, similar to GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. However… they can not just start looping round to do the same cities again. Nobody needs Liberty City again and even a new San Andreas seems kind of pointless.

They’ve got to start coming up with new locations, but they say GTA has to always be set in the US, so I don’t know how different they’d actually be. But as I understood, the main reason for keeping it in the US was because of the satire, but if GTA 6 doesn’t have much satire surely that rule is no longer valid?

I don’t even really care what country it is, I just feel it needs to be somewhere different. People are already worrying that GTA 6 seems too similar in terms of gameplay, it doesn’t need to be rotating round the same three cities forever.

Sad ending
I am just fascinated by this Cyberleek person, group… whatever they are. How can you be in possession of the most anticipated entertainment release in human history for two months and yet not manage to show a single interesting thing from it?

His videos are absolutely terrible, like he threw the video into a shredder and patched it together however it came out. There’s no useful information in any of them and now it seems half of it is only happening because of the debug menu.

What a complete waste of time. And now he’s sulking because he didn’t make $30 million from it? And he’s threatening Rockstar? This story is not going to have a happy ending. It’s really sad to be honest, like a train crash in slow motion.

Padding out
Following yesterday’s letter about the lack of a GTA 6 console bundle, I was wondering whether there has been a move away from bundles to making special edition controllers.

This year we have had no console bundles as far as I’m aware on PlayStation 5 for GTA, Marvel’s Wolverine, nor God Of War Laufey next year. Yet all three of these have had special edition controllers. Then we have also had Astro Bot and Ghosts Of Tsushima pads, amongst others I’m likely forgetting.
Angry Kurt

GC: We suspect it’s all because of the component crisis. Making a controller is easier, because it doesn’t have any memory or a hard drive.

One to go
I’m backing an interesting game on Kickstarter, it is called Bunderkin: The Ocular Eclipse and it is inspired by The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask games, as well as GameCube era classics. It is a stealth role-playing game with puzzles and exploration and it takes place over a three day period that loops to the beginning of day one.

Sometimes, when I back a Kickstarter, they only just make it over the goal and other Kickstarter campaigns are very successful and make a lot of money. This one I am backing is in the latter category. It is being released on Switch 1 and 2, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and PC. I got in early and backed it, so I have got the early bird physical version for £32.

The early bird prices, which are cheaper, are usually for the first 48 hours at the beginning of a Kickstarter campaign. You can get a digital copy for £22 or pay more for a physical copy. I am close to being classed as a ‘Super Backer’ on Kickstarter. You get this if you have backed 25 Kickstarters in a year. I am one short at 24. When you get the award, you get extra perks and features on Kickstarter and you get the badge Super Backer by your name.

Everything but the game
Have you seen that the collector’s edition of God Of War Laufey game comes with a message at the bottom saying ‘game not included.’ Surely that can’t be right?!

I hate codes in a box, but I am guessing it is a misprint and will include one? Unless is Sony just going full scorched Earth with all this now.
Simon

GC: It’s always seemed odd to us, but that’s perfectly normal. Most collector’s editions, from most publishers, don’t include the game.

Unfinished sympathy
I have been pondering this for quite some time. I have spoken to many people about this whilst carrying out my work, as I do see lots of people of various ages and demographics. Is it GTA 6 people want or GTA Online 2? I think the stats might suggest it’s Online 2. I’ve done a bit of research.

These are the figures according to Google, about GTA 5, which might give an insight:

The completion rate for the story on PlayStation is 29%. This drops to 25% on Xbox and PC.

For the trophy/achievement hunters the stats are 5.4% on PC for 100%. For PlaySation and Xbox its only 0.1 to 0.4%.

The stats would suggest that only a quarter of people are actually invested enough to bother with the single-player campaign until completion. So, what is driving the sales? I would suggest its GTA Online. It kind of begs the question, will people be disappointed to find no online element?

Mummy buying little Jonny a copy won’t know it’s a single player game. Little Jonny probably doesn’t know either, He just wants to get online with his mates and GTA is online.

GTA 5 has sold throughout its life cycle across multiple generations. 230 million copies. There will be a huge amount of players who only know GTA as an online game. I believe you have said in the past it’s where Rockstar makes its money.

It will be interesting to see if there is any kind of kickback to no online. Personally, I’m only interested in the campaign.
Dirtystopout

GC: You make a very good point. Although it is a fact that the completion rate for any game is always surprisingly low; that looks pretty high for GTA 5, especially for such a long game.

Inbox also-rans
Just like to say how disappointing it is to see that I got an email regarding the pre-orders for Metro 2039 a day after it was up for pre-order and now I missed the chance to get the collector’s edition. Really wanted to buy this.
Gary H (England)

GC: Publishers really don’t seem to be on the ball with collector’s editions at the moment.

That Xbox Wire post about their totally-not-AI studio was so ridiculous. I haven’t had any faith in Xbox for years but they’re somehow always getting worse.
