Rumours say Nintendo and Rockstar are working together on a Switch 2 port of GTA 6, but there are conflicting claims on whether it’ll actually release.

Although a PC version of GTA 6 hasn’t been formally announced, it’s guaranteed to arrive sooner or later. After all, Rockstar’s last two games also saw PC releases; people just had to wait a really long time for them (19 months for GTA 5 and 13 months for Red Dead Redemption 2).

What’s far less certain is a Nintendo Switch 2 port. While the Switch 2 is significantly stronger than its predecessor, capable of running games like Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 6 is boasting extremely realistic graphics and is expected to feature a massive open world, which when combined make a Switch 2 version seem like a pipe dream.

Even so, rumours of a GTA 6 Switch 2 port persist or at least that Rockstar and Nintendo are trying to get a port working.

One Nash Weedle, a frequent source of video game rumours, has been claiming since last year that a GTA 6 Switch 2 port is happening and, in the wake of GTA 6’s pre-orders going live, has said that ‘technical hurdles have been overcome,’ suggesting that Rockstar has got the game running on Nintendo’s console.

He adds that it still won’t be ready for this year, but another insider, Shpeshal Nick, alleges that he’s heard of no such port being on the way. Instead, he claims that Nintendo is working with Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive to ‘try and make it happen.’

This isn’t the first time someone has claimed this. Last year, NateTheHate alleged that Rockstar was in the process of testing GTA 6 on Switch 2, but he couldn’t say what state it was in.

It would make sense for Rockstar and Nintendo to at least try. Aside from the fact the two companies have a stronger working relationship than you might think, GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of all time so having it on Switch 2 would be beneficial for Nintendo.

GTA 6 is bound to sell extremely well on PlayStation 5 and Xbox (especially if reported pre-order figures are anything to go by) but having the game on Switch 2 means it can take advantage of that console’s audience too and thus sell even more copies.

Rockstar has also expressed interest in bringing more of its games to Nintendo’s platform as evidenced by the Switch 1 and Switch 2 ports of the first Red Dead Redemption.

A Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 has also been frequently rumoured, alongside a PlayStation 5 version, though they’ve yet to be formally announced.
