Harry Styles had the chance to do the funniest thing on the day of Taylor Swift’s wedding – and he did it.
The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker, 32, famously dated the pop queen, 36, in 2012, when One Direction’s popularity was unrivalled, and Taylor was in her Red era, a record that helped her reach new levels of fame in the UK.
Alas, their romance wasn’t to last, but the legacy of what fans dubbed ‘Haylor’ still lives on – they are both songwriters, after all!
This weekend, Taylor will marry Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in an extravagant New York City ceremony, having taken over world-famous arena Madison Square Garden and packed it with A-listers.
From Gigi Hadid to Beyoncé and from Graham Norton to Greg James, the Blank Space hitmaker and NFL star weren’t stingy with the invites, with over 1,000 attendees expected to watch them say ‘I do’.
Someone who won’t be there, though, is Harry, and perhaps not for the reason you think – because he was invited, according to Variety.
But he’s a busy man and has a residency at London’s Wembley Stadium to complete, so he’s on stage while celebs pull up to the wedding of the century.
Still, he ensured his presence was felt, as fans descended into hysteria when he cheekily sang one of his tunes inspired by his romance with Taylor tonight.
Titled Two Ghosts, the track from his self-titled debut solo album has long been assumed to be about Taylor, with Harry himself previously saying that the lyrics are ‘self-explanatory’.
Lines include references to ‘same lips red, same eyes blue’, like Taylor’s, and ‘same white shirt, couple more tattoos’, like his ever-growing ink collection.
The break-up ballad chronicles how a relationship can change over time, ultimately leading to its demise, with Harry solemnly singing, ‘We’re not who we used to be’.
While it’s a track he seldom plays live these days, and it isn’t on the set list for his 2026 Together, Together tour, Harry took a moment to belt out a few lines during his penultimate Wembley concert, with fans videoing the moment and sharing it online.
Encouraging the crowd to sing along, Harry can be seen raising his arms in the clip, looking around and smiling as if aware of the chaos he was causing.
Reacting to his very on-the-nose reference to his ex tying the knot, @respectyomother asked, ‘why is he like this’, while @harrysairpod3 exclaimed, ‘ON HER WEDDING DAY’.
‘He cant be serious for a SECOND’, @more_berries_ joked, as @tallesttiiptoes said: ‘had the chance to do something absolutely hilarious and he did it’.
‘Not harry teasing two ghost day Taylor is getting married he’s SICK’, @harrymoonchild tweeted.
Harry is, of course, now in a relationship with Zoë Kravitz, 37, to whom he is said to have got engaged earlier this year following a whirlwind summer romance.
The actress is also friends with Taylor and has been invited to the nuptials, with a source telling Us Weekly: ‘Their relationship was so long ago. Harry has moved on, and so has Taylor.
‘They’re friendly when they see each other, which isn’t often but does happen occasionally. It’s all in the past now.’
Indeed, they’ve continued speaking highly of one another since their breakup, with Harry previously telling Rolling Stone that he likes ‘tipping a hat to the time together’ when writing.
‘You’re celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than, “This didn’t work out, and that’s bad”.’
He’s also praised Taylor’s own songwriting, with Haylor having largely inspired her 1989 era and beyond – literally, she has a song called Style, which she said is ‘about those relationships that are never really done’ and ‘the one person who you feel might interrupt your wedding’. How apt.
Asked by Howard Stern in 2020 whether he ‘likes’ songs such as Out Of The Woods and I Know Places, Harry responded: ‘Yes and no. She doesn’t need me to tell her they’re great. They’re great songs… It’s the most amazing, unspoken dialogue ever.’
The exes have even been seen interacting with each other publicly at the Grammys, applauding each other’s wins several years on from their very public relationship in 2013.
Taylor then began dating Travis in the summer of 2023 after he attended her Eras Tour show at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, making it very clear on his podcast afterwards that he wanted to give her his phone number.
‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,’ he told New Heights listeners. ‘So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.
‘But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.’
Fortunately for Travis, the two later connected, and he was able to pop the question in a dreamy floral garden setting last August.
From there, Taylor has been in full wedding planning mode, showing off her dazzling ring in interviews and telling The Graham Norton Show that she wanted to go big.
‘I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount [of guests], and people are on the bubble, right? And you have to evaluate and assess your relationship with them to see if they should be there. I’m not gonna do that.
‘Anyone that I’ve ever talked to [is invited],’ she quipped.
Indeed, that turned out to be the case, as the couple has splashed millions on turning MSG into their perfect venue, with fans camped outside hoping to catch a slight glimpse of the celebrations.
