Valerie Perrine, the beloved “Superman” actress, passed away in March at the age of 82, and her cause of death has now been confirmed.
According to PEOPLE, Perrine died of acute cardiopulmonary arrest, which is also known as a sudden cardiac arrest. Parkinsonâs disease was also listed as the underlying cause of death, with the Los Angeles Department of Health adding that “dementia was a contributing factor.”
Valerie Perrine’s Close Friend Announced The News Of Her Passing
In a Facebook post on Monday, March 23, Perrine’s close friend, Stacey Souther, shared the news.
“It is with deep sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that Valerie has passed away,” the post read. “She faced Parkinsonâs disease with incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining. She was a true inspiration who lived life to the fullestâand what a magnificent life it was. The world feels less beautiful without her in it.”
“I love you, Valerie. Iâll see you on the other side,” Souther added.
Under the post, many people left comments, paying tribute to the actress.
“I am so very sorry to hear of Valerie’s passing. Her portrayal as Miss Teschmacher was a big part of my childhood and of the Superman legacy. We’ll miss her,” one person shared.
“So sorry to hear this. She was a beautiful, kind, funny, strong, smart, talented woman. Glad I got to meet her. True legend,” another person commented.
A GoFundMe Was Launched After Valerie Perrine’s Passing
In Souther’s note on social media, she also asked fans to consider donating to her GoFundMe.
“Please consider donating, sharing, and helping spread the word for her funeral GoFundMe. Her final wish is to be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery, but after more than 15 years of fighting Parkinsonâs, her finances are exhausted. Letâs come together to make her last wish a realityâshe truly deserves it,” she wrote.
On April 5, the $50,000 goal was reached, and Souther shared a heartfelt message.
“We did itâwe reached our goal,” she began. “Because of your love, generosity, and support, Valerieâs final wish will become a reality. Iâm beyond grateful to each and every one of you who contributed, shared, and showed up for her in this way. What youâve all done here is truly beautiful, and I know she would be so deeply touched.”
“From the bottom of my heartâthank you,” Souther concluded.
