Actress and Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson has revealed that she didn’t lose her virginity until she was 35.

The 44-year-old, who is engaged to designer Ramona Agruma, hopes sharing her story will send a ‘positive message’ to others about taking things at their own pace.

She said she was keen to reassure young people that ‘not everybody has to’ have sex for the first time as a teenager.

‘People can wait till they’re ready or wait till they’re a bit more mature. And I think that could be a positive message.

‘You obviously don’t have to wait until you’re in your thirties like me, but you shouldn’t feel pressure as a young person,’ she shared.

The Bridesmaids star, who has written a headline-grabbing memoir, Rebel Rising, admitted she used to avoid discussing the subject as much as she could because she was ‘embarrassed’ and didn’t want people to think she was a ‘loser’.

‘There was one vague time, I think I told my best friend, “Oh, yeah, I just did it to just get it over with when I was like 23.” Just to really avoid the questions,’ she told People magazine, revealing that she would normally ‘just leave the room’ when that type of conversation was happening.

‘And then the people that said, “Oh, at 24, it’s so late.” And then I’m sitting here thinking, “Oh my God, my number’s 35. What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser”.’

Although she considers herself a ‘late bloomer’, Rebel believes if she was a generation younger, she’d have had a ‘very different’ experience when it came to exploring her sexuality.

The mum-of-one welcomed daughter Royce via surrogate in November 2022, just months after coming out on social media as she gushed over finding her ‘Disney Princess’, Ramona.

At the time, alongside a sweet selfie of the couple beaming together, the Australian-born star wrote: ‘I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess 💗🌈💗 #loveislove.’

She explained to the publication that if she had been ‘born 20 years later’, she probably would have explored her sexuality more at a younger age rather than relying on the fact ‘I just knew I was attracted to men, and that was the normal thing’.

Rebel said she began opening herself up more to relationships following her father’s death.

She previously dated men, including entrepreneur Jacob Busch (Picture: Getty)

‘And then only years later, meeting women and having feelings for a woman, and that, I just think it’s a sign of where society kind of was,’ she added.

Before Ramona, Rebel had previously publicly only dated men.

Her prior relationship was with Jacob Busch, whose family founded the brewing company Anheuser-Busch, in 2020, before they called it quits the following February.
