Jack Nicholson may have conquered Hollywood, but the legendary actor once admitted there was one thing he still hoped to find: love.
Though the Oscar-winning star has spent decades cementing his status as one of cinemaâs most celebrated actors, Nicholson previously shared that his personal life still left him yearning for something more.
Nicholson Previously Opened Up About Romance
In a past interview with the Daily Mail in 2011, the actor revealed that even later in life, the idea of romance still held meaning for him.
âI would love one last romance,â Nicholson said in 2015.
At the same time, however, he acknowledged that he wasnât necessarily optimistic about it becoming reality.
âBut Iâm not very realistic about it happening,â he added. âWhat I canât deny is my yearning.â
Nicholson, now 89, has long been known for his charisma and larger-than-life persona, both onscreen and off. Yet the actor suggested that aging changed how he approached dating and relationships.
âIâm definitely still wild at heart, but Iâve struck biogravity,â he said.
The phrase became something of Nicholsonâs way of describing the realities of getting older â especially when it came to romance.
He admitted that pursuing women no longer felt natural to him in public settings.
âI canât hit on women in public anymore,â he explained. âIt just doesnât feel right at my age.â
Despite decades of fame and success, Nicholson was candid about feeling less accomplished when it came to matters of the heart.
âI have had everything a man could ask for but no one could say Iâm successful with affairs of the heart,â he said.
Nicholson also offered a brutally honest take on how central women had been to his outlook throughout life.
âIf men are honest, everything they do and everywhere they go is for a chance to see women,â he said.
At one point, he admitted he felt âoddly irresistibleâ to women.
âThere were points in my life where I felt oddly irresistible to women,â Nicholson said. âIâm not in that state now and that makes me sad.â
Still, he added that aging brought its own lessons.
âBut I also believe that a lot of the improvements in my character have come through ageing and the diminishing of powers,â he continued. âItâs all a balancing act; you just have to get used to the ride.â
Nicholsonâs Past Romances
Nicholsonâs romantic history has remained almost as famous as his film career.
Before becoming a household name, he married actress Sandra Knight in 1962 after the two worked together on the low-budget horror film âThe Terror.â
The pair welcomed daughter Jennifer before divorcing in 1968.
Years later, Nicholson began what would become his longest and most high-profile relationship with actress Anjelica Huston.
The two met in 1973 and remained together for 17 years, becoming one of Hollywoodâs most recognizable couples.
Though they never married, Nicholson once described Huston as âthe love of my life.â
Their relationship ultimately ended in 1990 after Huston learned actress Rebecca Broussard was pregnant with Nicholsonâs daughter, Lorraine.
In total, Nicholson has six children, but only tied the knot once.
Even after decades in the spotlight, Nicholsonâs reflections reveal a surprisingly vulnerable side â one still holding onto hope for connection, even if quietly.
