Jamie Lee Curtis has been forced to clarify her comments about having a less-than-stellar time while guest starring on the set of New Girl.

The 67-year-old stepped in to play the mother of leading lady Jess (Zooey Deschanel), alongside the late When Harry Met Sally filmmaker Rob Reiner, who played her ex in the 2012 episode Parents and 2018’s The Curse of the Pirate Bride.

But Curtis has now addressed her comments about ‘hating’ the sitcom. ‘I did a single camera, which I hated,’ Curtis said about New Girl.

But The Bear star clarified to NBC that it wasn’t any of the cast that she disliked, but rather the single-camera format without a studio audience.

She added: ‘It’s a great show, New Girl, very funny, but doing it is just like doing a movie.

‘You know, you’ve got a camera crew, and nobody laughs. It’s silent, and it’s awful. For me, awful. Single-camera comedies, for me: not fun.’

However, that in-the-moment clarification proved not to be enough to sate the New Girl fans, who were not best pleased with Curtis, forcing her to issue a follow-up statement on her Instagram.

Curtis posted a snap from behind the scenes on New Girl, smiling alongside Deschanel and Reiner. In the caption, she harkened: ‘HEY INTERNET! HI!’

The actress continued: ‘As if we don’t have bigger issues facing Americans and the world at large and natural disasters and unnatural behaviours of despots than to be concerned about a flip comment picked up at a press moment promoting Newlyweds,’ referring to the upcoming NBC sitcom she had been promoting.

Explaining the show, which premieres this October, she added: ‘I was there gushing about a multi-camera sitcom that I co-created along with Gail Lerner about a late in life love and people finding each other and marrying on a whim.

‘It stars Tea Leoni and Tim Daly as the couple and we are having so much fun and the audiences are loving it and I was comparing how much I liked doing the show live in front of a studio audience, which is almost like doing a play where you get immediate feedback, and to the experience of doing a single-camera comedy like New Girl.

Speaking on the series about a quirky teacher, Curtis added: ‘There’s absolutely no feedback, as you’re trying to do comedy, like a comedy feature and I said it wasn’t my favourite experience although the show itself is fantastic and the team that made it are talented.

‘That Zooey Deschanel is an absolute gem of a human and said I got to play with my friend, Rob Reiner, as exes and that was sweet and lovely and so please, let’s not waste clicks and comments and just move on to WAY more important things.

‘That will be all.’
