Kimmel Has Bravely Opened Up About Billyâs Health
Billy, the youngest child Kimmel shares with wife Molly McNearney, was born in 2017 with congenital heart disease.
Just days after his birth, he underwent open-heart surgery â a moment Kimmel later described publicly in a deeply emotional segment that resonated with viewers nationwide, according to People.
At the time, Kimmel balanced humor with heartbreak, joking, âPoor kid. Not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face,â while also expressing profound gratitude for the medical team that stepped in to save his sonâs life.
Over the years, Billy has undergone multiple procedures, including a third heart surgery in May 2024 which Kimmel shared to Instagram.
Billy Has Had Numerous Surgeries
Following that operation, Kimmel shared an update that echoed both relief and perspective.
âWe went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid,â he wrote.
He also took time to acknowledge the people behind Billyâs care, highlighting the compassion and expertise of the medical staff who supported their family through each step.
Reflecting on time spent in the hospital, Kimmel noted how humbling it was to witness other families navigating similar challenges, adding that many are not as fortunate.
Now, as Billy approaches double digits, the focus is on celebrating the present.
