Joe Wicks lets daughter, 5, wield Japanese chef’s knife as she cooks steak

Fitness guru Joe Wicks shared a little family video with his five-year-old daughter Indigo expertly cooking a steak to perfection.

However, the 38-year-old TV personality quickly became swept up in controversy as concern was raised over the knife wielded by the tot.

Just weeks ago, Joe was embroiled in another controversy as he had to issue an apology for appearing to suggest the belief that ‘ADHD is caused by ultra-processed foods’.

Now, fans are concerned that his children are allowed to use an ‘unnecessary’ Japanese chef’s knife, which was rather large and clearly very sharp.

Indigo was proudly cooking and then cutting through a thick ‘perfect’ ribeye steak, with younger sibling Marley, four, right by her side.

‘Then you carefully cut it into slices with a sharp knife,’ said the youngster as Joe replied: ‘That’s a proper sharp Japanese knife.’

Allowing his daughter to use such a large and sharp knife caused some parenting arguments in his comments though, as people weighed in on the safety issues.

‘I’m a big Joe fan but….. bizarrely no one mentioning the knife?’ commented Jane Dent. ‘Completely unnecessary for a child to be using that with another even younger child next to them. Accident waiting to happen unfortunately.’

She was immediately met with defensive comments stating that Joe was supervising and teaching the little ones kitchen safety while young.

‘More dangerous not been sharp , she’s well supervised 🙄,’ retorted Mandie Oldridge.

Joan East added: ‘I disagree, teach them to use a knife, even a big one when they are young under parental supervision and they will be less likely to cause serious injury to themselves.’

‘I expect you weren’t there for all the conversations they’ve had about dangers in the kitchen,’ shared Sue Simmonds. ‘I’ve seen many a video where he’s told them to watch the knife/pan/heat etc.’

Both Joe and his wife Rosie, who is currently pregnant with baby number four, can be seen looking on in the reflection of the cupboards.

Throughout the video the Body Coach encourages his daughter, praising her cooking and stating she ‘nailed’ the perfect medium rare steak.

At the end of the tutorial, Indigo’s hand can be seen hovering slightly as she searches for a safe place to put the huge knife down.

She puts it at the edge of the chopping board before picking up a slice to taste test, while Marley approvingly gives a thumbs up.

In another clip the knife has been moved as the pair shout ’10 out of 10′, with a ‘wooo’ from Joe behind the camera.

As well as Indigo and Marley, the couple share 19-month-old daughter Leni and are expecting another baby later this year.
