The long-awaited sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance has got its first trailer and it seems to have had a major graphical upgrade.

It’s virtually impossible for any new game to be announced now, without first leaking out beforehand but Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 almost made it – if it weren’t for one site accidentally posting part of the reveal trailer before it was supposed to.

Developer Warhorse Studios had said they were going to announce a new game this week though, so either way it wasn’t hard to guess that it’s a sequel to 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the hit action role-player set in 15th century Bohemia.

Deliverance 2 will continue the story of Henry of Skalitz, with five hours of cut scenes promised, in order to flesh out the story and give more context to the familiar first person gameplay.

The trailer looks good (even if the English accents obscure the fact that the game’s actually set in central Europe), with some very impressive visuals, but it doesn’t really offer much detail.

Customisation seems to be a key focus though, from how Henry looks to being able to forge your own weapons and a branching narrative based on your decisions.

Although it’s not really obvious in the trailer, the new open world map will include much large cities and castles, filled with people, when compared to the original.

The first game was basically The Elder Scrolls but without any magic or monsters. It was pretty good too, despite a hefty amount of bugs and some clunky combat.

However, iit’s arguably most famous for the views of GamerGate-supporting creative director Daniel Vávra, who repeatedly defended the game’s poor treatment of ethnic minorities and women as historically accurate.

Whether that’s true was a point of contention, but the real problem was that Vávra seemed to revel in the bigotry of the era and nothing he’s said since suggests he’s changed his approach.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC some time later this year.
