League of Legends pro suspended and fined £4,800 for humping a bear

Invictus Gaming pro Leyan has been suspended for two games and fined thousands for ‘morally controversial behaviour’ during a livestream.

League of Legends publisher Riot likes to keep its professional players on a a tight leash, which became quite clear when it fined a 100 Thieves pro £3,900 for wearing Crocs at a tournament.

This time, however, the fine seems a bit less ridiculous, as Invictus Gaming pro Lu ‘Leyan’ Jue was reprimanded for humping a stuffed bear.

Leyan was fined £4,800 by Riot and suspended for two games, while Invictus Gaming was fined £2,200, in what Riot and his own team called ‘inappropriate’ and ‘morally controversial behaviour’.

After Riot’s ruling was made public Invictus Gaming posted a similar message, neither specifically mentioning exactly what Leyan was punished for, but the esports team acknowledged it, saying:

‘Recently, Leyan, a player from the League of Legends branch of the iG E-sports Club, made inappropriate words and deeds many times during the live broadcast, which caused widespread discussion on the internet and caused adverse effects.

‘The club educated and criticised him, and made a decision to deduct two months’ salary from Leyan, and accepted all punishment decisions from the disciplinary management team of the League of Legends professional tournament,’ the team said on Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Before Leyan was punished, he posted his explanation of what happened during the stream on Weibo, translated via Google, saying:

‘It’s not what everyone thinks. The bear was too big. The music in the headphones was rocking at that time. I just thought the bear was cute, so I hugged it and shook it.’

According to Twitter user Yuuu, Leyan also made a bet with someone during the same stream that he would vape on stage if he lost a match, which is also against Riot’s rules.

The ban means that Leyan won’t be able to play two of Invictus Gaming’s upcoming best of three match-ups, in the upcoming Summer Split tournament.

You can watch the video below, but this must be one of the most unnecessary ways to get banned in esports in a long time.
