One of the three stars of Line of Duty has reportedly been injured with an Airsoft gun while filming the hit BBC series.

It was confirmed in November last year that the fan favourite crime drama would return for a seventh series, reuniting its core cast members.

With Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar all reprising their roles, filming is now underway in Northern Ireland.

Precise details have been kept under wraps, but we know that Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle will play the season’s guest lead, Detective Constable Shaun Massie.

He’ll follow in the footsteps of previous bent coppers Stephen Graham, Keeley Hawes, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James and Daniel Mays.

Shooting has reportedly hit a snag with Martin Compston, 42, reportedly suffering an injury after being struck by an Airsoft gun on set in Belfast.

According to Irish News, Martin had been filming for series seven when he was injured in an incident with an Airsoft gun.

The publication says that he was assessed by medical staff and able to resume filming soon after.

Airsoft guns are generally used in the place of real weapons on TV and movie sets, and fire neither real bullets nor blanks.

When it comes to weapons, all production companies are expected to adhere to strict health and safety policies and guidelines enforced by the BBC.

This includes making sure a licensed armourer is present to oversee their use on set.

Back in April, stars of the show whipped fans into a frenzy by posting a series of snapshots from the show’s set.

This began with a post from Vicky McClure, who shared a video of herself and Martin crooning to Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody while dressed in their characters’ costumes.

This included the now-iconic waistcoat Martin wears to play Steve Arnott.

In February, the Scottish actor revealed that he was undergoing a strict diet prepared by his wife so as to squeeze back into Steve’s waistcoat.

Meanwhile, series mastermind Jed Mercurio posted a snap of Adrian Dunbar (or at least the back of his head), in character as Ted Hastings, with his iconic catchphrase overlaid on top of the picture.

‘There’s only one thing I’m interested in and one thing only and that’s bent coppers,’ it read.

In a recent interview, Vicky, 43, teased what viewers can expect from the seventh series.

‘I’m really enjoying it,’ she said on BBC Breakfast.

‘We worked out the other day; it’s six years since we last shot, and it’s been nearly 15 years since we began, so it’s been a long time. Martin, Adey, and Jed, we’re all solid friends, so there’s been lots of curries, we love a curry night, and it’s been great.

‘The storyline is unbelievable. So Line of Duty, so twisty-turny… Obviously having Robert Carlyle join the team is major, and working with him is like a dream come true.’
