Meryl Streep is stepping into the fashion world in a whole new way, revealing that she just attended her very first fashion show at age 76 while filming âThe Devil Wears Prada 2.â
The Oscar winner shared the moment during SiriusXMâs âFront Row,â explaining that her appearance at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 show during Milan Fashion Week marked a first for her. âI was so excited,â Streep said, adding, âIt was really exciting, and I didn’t know it was so theatrical,â according to People.
The experience was even more fitting given the context. Streep attended the show fully in character as Miranda Priestly, wearing a camel latex trench coat, white sunglasses and heels. Leaning into the role, she joked about the iconic shades, saying, âNobody knew where I was looking⦠that was so good. Now I know why she does that.â
A Full-Circle Moment With Anna Wintour
The moment took on even more meaning as Streep found herself seated across from Anna Wintour, the former Vogue editor-in-chief who is widely believed to have inspired Miranda Priestly.
The two were seen greeting each other at the show, sharing a hug and chatting briefly. Reflecting on Wintour, Streep described her as âso smart and funny and forgiving and understanding.â She also noted that she didnât get to know Wintour until after the original 2006 film was released.
Despite the real-life comparisons, Streep has always maintained that her portrayal of Miranda Priestly is her own creation. âI just wanted to create my own Miranda,â she said, adding that she imagined who she would be âif I were in charge,â per People.
She also revealed that Wintour has been curious about the upcoming sequel, sharing that the fashion icon reached out to ask about it. âShe did call me up and say, âWhatâs this going to be like?ââ Streep recalled, adding that she reassured her, âI think itâs going to be good. Youâre not going to be worried.â
Channeling Miranda Priestly on the Red Carpet

Streep didnât stop at Milan Fashion Week. She continued channeling her iconic character at the New York premiere of âThe Devil Wears Prada 2â on April 20, stepping onto the red carpet alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.
For the event, she wore a dramatic red caped Givenchy look styled by Micaela Erlanger, complete with opera gloves and statement jewelry. The outfit was designed to reflect the power and confidence of Miranda Priestly, with her stylist describing it as âher boldestâ look of the press tour, per Vogue.

The premiere appearance was part of a larger run of fashion-forward moments for Streep, with each look subtly nodding to her characterâs signature style.
Meanwhile, Streep also opened up about returning to Miranda Priestly during a recent appearance on âGood Morning America,â calling the experience a rare opportunity. âIt was really fun to come back and revisit a character 20 years later â who gets to do that?â she said, per ABC News.
She added that the sequel explores modern challenges within creative industries, noting, âItâs human creativity⦠under siege right now in every business.â
With âThe Devil Wears Prada 2â set to hit theaters May 1, Streepâs real-life introduction to fashion seems to mirror the world her character has dominated for years.
âIt was really exciting, and I didn’t know it was so theatrical.â
