As the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its second month, new details suggest the suspect’s original plan may have been thrown off course.
Previously, Savannah Guthrie disclosed that Nancy’s back doors were propped open. There were also reports that the suspect may have used her flower pots to keep them open, pointing to a planned escape route.
Now, emerging details suggest a neighbor’s dog named Jolene may have disrupted the suspect’s original plan.
In the latest episode of “Crime Stories With Nancy Grace,” the dog’s owner and Nancy’s neighbor, Jeff Lamie, recalled the unusual events that unfolded on the evenings of January 11 and February 1.
“Our dogs are sound sleepers, so this was really unusual for the dogs to wake us up at that hour,” Lamei told Grace, noting that they were barking more than usual.
Grace pointed out that the dogs’ barking possibly threw off the suspect’s initial plan to use the back doors.
“If that door was meant just to go in and get Mrs. Guthrie and go out the front. They wouldn’t have propped it open behind them,” Grace explained. “But your dog barking, I believe, may have foiled their plan, and they had to go out the front.”

It was also revealed that the time Jolene insisted on going outside closely coincided with the time unusual activity was noted at Nancy Guthrie’s home.
“I think it was at 1:40ish a.m. was the time that the dogs woke us up and encouraged me to take her outside,” Nancy’s neighbor recalled. “She noticed activity and was staring towards the direction of the home and processing.”

Lamei hopes this new piece of information could somehow help the investigation moving forward. He also addressed some of the criticism he’s been getting online.
“You know, I initially, I was not going to talk to the media, but someone encouraged me and said that this keeps attention on this case,” Nancy’s neighbor told Grace. “It keeps awareness of the reward. It keeps awareness of someone perhaps coming forth with information that might be helpful.”
He continued, “So there would be a value to doing this. And there are people who are going to be critical. But the reality is, perhaps this can add value and I’m going to dismiss those criticisms and move forward, and let’s let’s try to be helpful. Let’s try to be supportive and let’s try to move forward and move towards perhaps some resolution, some solace, some progress with this case.”
