Britain’s Got Talent is back with a bang, as Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon are on the hunt for the nation’s next superstar.

The ITV variety programme, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, has produced household names like Susan Boyle and Diversity.

But one musician has another huge link to fame, being the wife of a British music icon.

Violinist Izzy Johnston was a part of electronic string quartet group Escala (previously known as Scala), on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008.

The musicians starred on the second series of the competition, making it all the way to the final.

During their audition, all three judges – Simon, Amanda and Piers Morgan – gave them a standing ovation, with media mogul Simon calling them ‘incredible’.

‘I think you’ve got a really chance in this competition,’ Piers added, while Amanda gushed: ‘I thought you were phenomenal.’

And they made it all the way to the end, before losing out in the final to winner George Sampson.

‘Escala turned classical music on its head,’ Simon praised at the time.

After the competition, they signed a £1.5million contract with Simon and released their album Escala the following year.

Izzy left the group three years later in 2011, with the then-trio holding auditions for her replacement.

And she’s also married to McFly star Harry Judd, after meeting in 2005 when she was playing violin in the backing orchestra on the band’s Wonderland Tour.

The pair married in 2012 – the year after Harry won Strictly Come Dancing – and now share three children together.

During their wedding celebrations, they even had a Strictly-style first dance, with Harry later sharing the sweet clip to YouTube.

As well as her music career and being a podcast host, Izzy is a published author, having written Dare to Dream: My Struggle to Become a Mum and Mindfulness For Mums.

Izzy has been open about her fertility journey in the past, having suffered heartache when she miscarried in 2014 after their first round of IVF.

Their second attempt led to Izzy falling pregnant with Lola, eight, and they later conceived naturally with Kit, six, before announcing they were expecting their third child, Lockie, in 2021.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about adjusting to motherhood back in 2017, Izzy said: ‘When you experience IVF or fertility problems, so much of your focus is on getting pregnant that you don’t give that much thought to how your life is really going to change when you become a mum.

‘I think having gone through IVF, you sort of have a guilt. You don’t want to complain about anything related to being a mum because it’s desperately what you want, and what so many other women want. If you’re having a tough day you almost feel guilty for finding it tough.

‘Especially when Lola was first born, I did struggle with it a little bit – why wasn’t I in this complete blissful bubble? But it’s overwhelming when you’re responsible for this tiny little being – your life changes completely,’ she added.

Britain’s Got Talent continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1.
