Prince Harry attended the Premiership Rugby match between Leicester Tigers and Gloucester at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium on October 9. Cameras showed him on the stadium’s big screen, and some spectators reportedly booed him.

TNT Sports commentator Nick Mullins also acknowledged the reaction, saying, “Some boos there.” Royal expert Tom Sykes called the reaction “the stuff of royal nightmares.” He argued that it challenged the idea that the press and palace officials were behind Harry’s troubles.

Writing in his <a href=”https://theroyalist.substack.com/p/harrys-worst-nightmare-booed-by-the” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener nofollow”>Royalist newsletter, Sykes argued, “When the tabloids attack him, Harry can take them to court. When the Palace sends a chilly letter, he can blame the men in grey suits.”

Sykes added, “The entire Sussex story depends on the idea that the press and the courtiers are the problem, and that the British people, deep down, are still on his side. This isn’t a media conspiracy. This isn’t the press.”

He compared the incident to Harry and Markle’s appearance at the 2025 World Series. The couple reportedly faced boos when they appeared in the stadium during Game 4 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays.

The game took place at Dodger Stadium on October 28, 2025. “He has now been booed in the stands of his adopted home and in the stands of his real one,” Sykes wrote. Harry has often spoken about the effect of British media coverage on his life.

During an interview with James Corden in February 2021, he explained why he and Markle stepped back from royal duties. “It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw,” he said. “We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health.”

Harry raised similar concerns during his and Markle’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. He said living in the United States offered his family privacy and freedom they “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able” to enjoy in Britain.

He also spoke of his fear of “history repeating itself.” The Duke was referring to his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997 following a pursuit involving paparazzi. Meanwhile, Harry attended the recent match without Meghan Markle.

He was reportedly with Leicester Tigers Chief Executive Andrea Pinchen. Leicester won 38-31 after recovering from an early 14-point deficit. This all comes after Harry and Markle returned to Britain in August 2026 with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The family is reportedly staying in the Cotswolds.

In September, a public letter from Lord Chamberlain made it clear that the couple was still “private citizens” with their own business and charity work. Neither of them was a working royal. The family has also reportedly moved Archie and Lilibet to a new school over security concerns.

These reportedly included worries about traffic around the area. Now, according to People, Harry and Markle are getting ready for a joint visit to Nottingham on October 15. It will be their first official appearance together since returning to Britain.
