Richard E Grant fears he might have said more is permissible about Celebrity Traitors during a new interview.

The actor, 69, was among the star-spangled line-up that descended on Ardross Castle weeks ago to film the second season of the ratings juggernaut for the BBC.

Since returning from their stint in the Highlands, the cast have kept mum about what exactly went on, for fear they might spoil anything before the series airs later this year.

Except, it’s not terribly easy when you have promotional obligations, as Grant currently does for his new period drama, Savage House.

During an appearance on The One Show, hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Scott were quick to ask about Celebrity Traitors, to which Grant initially replied ‘What’s that?’

He went on to admit that his daughter, casting director Olivia Grant, didn’t think he would be any good at the roundtable.

Grant explained: ‘She and all her friends, to their credit, said, “You are incapable of hiding what you feel about anything in life. So we don’t think that you’re gonna last more than about four nanoseconds”.’

Scott soon asked if that had been the case, to which he replied: ‘I have no idea. I’ve been hypnotised and I value my knees and I don’t want BBC security to come and break them.’

But still, The Traitors conversation rumbled on, as Scott asked whether Grant’s close friend Celia Imrie – who was infamously murdered over dinner by victor Alan Carr – had offered him any advice before he travelled to Inverness to film the show.

Grant admitted he had called her up to get her guidance on what to look out for. ‘When it was announced who was going to be in it, I called her, because we’ve known each other for 40 years.

‘I said, Celia, what is the thing that you can’t be prepared for? She said, “The cruelty of people who you instinctively want to trust”.

‘Like in a room like this and suddenly every single person suspects you. I think that’s a very accurate thing to have said.’

Grant then pulled a dismayed face and shoved his hand in his mouth, bemoaning: ‘I’ve already said too much!’

Celebrity Traitors returns for season two on the BBC this autumn.
