Richard Gere, 76, and Wife Alejandra Silva Share Rare Photos of Family Life with Their 3 Kids

Richard Gere’s wife, Alejandra Silva, 34, shared a glimpse into family life with Gere and their three children in an Instagram post on Sunday, May 10.

Gere and Silva welcomed two boys since trying the knot in 2018: Alexander, 7, and James, 6, PEOPLE reported. Silva also has a son, Albert, with her ex-husband, Govind Friedland, who they welcomed in 2012. 

In one image from Silva’s 5-photo carousel, Gere and their three boys showed their family matriarch how much they love her by shaping their hands into the form of a heart. Another photo shows Silva with the couple’s two young boys as they enjoy a rainy day in yellow rain jackets.

Gere, 76, reshared his wife’s post to his Instagram Story, where he also emphasized his deep devotion to Silva. “We love you!” the Hollywood actor wrote.

Gere and Silva relocated from New Canaan, Conneticut, to Madrid, Spain, in 2024 to be closer to Silva’s family. Gere noted in a previous interview with Elle España that selling their $10.75 million estate in Connecticut to move to Madrid made their family “happier than ever,” adding that sharing in Silva’s joy while back in her homeland was an unforgettable experience and one that brought their family even closer. 

“The truth is, you’re seeing us in our prime,” the “Pretty Woman” actor told Elle. 

Gere and Silva’s common interest in humanitarian and philanthropic work has been a pointed aspect of their life together. Gere, who has long been a strong leader and advocate in Tibetan human rights, HIV/AIDS, relief in Palestinian territories, and more, shared with Elle that working together with his wife to preserve the planet is one of the most beautiful parts of their relationship.

“The real star is my wife,” Gere told the outlet, adding that Silva was the first to believe in the Sierra a Mar project, an initiative co-founded by Gere in 2023 to protect and restore coastal ecosystems in Costalegre, Jalisco, Mexico.

“We imagined a wonderful place where people were truly responsible and cared for the land and water, for the animals, and for each other,” the “Shall We Dance” actor told Elle.

While Gere and Silva initially met over 20 years ago through her father, according to PEOPLE, they reconnected in 2014 in Positano, Italy, when a mutual friend flagged them together. At the time, Silva managed Hotel Treville in the coastal Italian domain. Meanwhile, Gere had recently ended his 11-year marriage to actress Carey Lowell, whom he married in 2002 before splitting in 2013.

Despite their 34-year age gap, Gere and Silva quickly became enamored with each other. After four years of dating, they tied the knot in a secret civil ceremony in April 2018 before marrying again in a larger Buddhist-inspired wedding one month later, PEOPLE reported.

Gere, who shares his only children with Silva, told HELLO! in a previous interview that parenting alongside Silva made him develop a stronger connection to fatherhood.

“She’s an incredible mother,” Gere shared. “I’ve actually learned how to be a better father by watching her.”

While the couple share a deep longing to conserve the planet, Gere opened up to HELLO! during the screening of his documentary “Wisdom of Happiness” in 2025 about the one thing that keeps him and Silva connected, revealing that “kissing my wife” is the key to their successful marriage.
