Strictly Come Dancing star Jayde Adams has expressed her devastation at the news that her ITV programme has been axed.

The channel has been making a string of cancellations in recent months, including two of Iain Stirling’s programmes, Laura Whitmore’s weekend show as well as Oti Mabuse’s, The Masked Dancer and more recently, Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow.

And now, Jayde’s Ruby Speaking has taken a hit, after just one season.

The comedian, 39, shared a clip of bloopers on Instagram, writing: ‘Apologies to say, but Ruby Speaking isn’t getting another series. Aside from gorgeous babe Alan Carr, none of the shows commissioned to promote ITVX are.

‘Yes, I did buy three billboards in Bristol to promote it and bugged you all in January to watch it again but that’s TV for you, so unpredictable.

‘One thing I can say is, I’ve made friends for life and had an education in tv and film making that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Six weeks of filming the series and we all still make time to see each other. We were nominated for a couple of RTS awards and the majority of the cast came to Bristol last Sunday.’

She went on: ‘Myself, Lucy, and Abi started the project in 2016, when Abi was pregnant and Lucy’s cat was a kitten! One cat and an 8 year old later, I’ve learned so much from the experience.

‘It takes ages to get these things going, longer if you don’t av a private or russ education, or nepotism available. Thank you to them for believing in me and thank you to Nana for the commission.’

Speaking of the commission, Jayde recalled how she had been told just moments earlier that she ‘needed to go to Edinburgh Fringe for the 9th time because I wasn’t successful enough yet’, before being given her own full series without a pilot.

‘It was an incredibly powerful moment after I had been made to feel less than,’ she said.

Jayde went on: ‘I’ve lived by a personal philosophy for the entirety of my career. It’s always disappointing when things don’t work out the way you want them to, the failure you could feel about not getting that opportunity you want, but there is “no art without failure.” so essentially failure doesn’t exist.

‘What I learned making Ruby Speaking has made me a stronger artist, we didn’t get the commission but the experience has strengthened me hugely. I’m taking away so much.

‘Thank you for watching, sharing and supporting…more on its way babes. For now, here are the bloopers.’

Fans are just as heartbroken, with @itsemchannel writing: ‘Noooooo. This became my comfort series and I wanted to know what happened next!! Take it to the stage!!! xx.’

@angemc01 added: ‘My husband and I loved this series. Such a shame. We also saw you at Edinburgh last year…phenomenal. Also absolutely adored you in Alma’s Not Normal. Loved you on Strictly as well. X’

The six-part series first aired in June last year, and starred Katherine Kelly, Sam Swainsbury and Joe Sims alongside Jayde.

Ruby Speaking isn’t the only comedy to be axed, as the broadcaster has confirmed Count Abdulla has also been cut.

The Arian Nik starring show isn’t returned for a second series either, with an ITV spokesperson telling Metro.co.uk: ‘Count Abdulla & Ruby Speaking sadly won’t be returning for a second series, we’d like to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work in bringing these shows to our screens.’

The cuts come as ITV unveiled its new programming schedule for the upcoming months, with new commissions and returning favourites.

Nana Hughes, ITV’s Head of Comedy said: ‘We wanted to build on the success of last year’s comedy season knowing there is strength in numbers.

‘We have packaged for your pleasure the return of Alan Carr’s hilarious autobiographical comedy, Changing Ends, alongside a brand new comedy, Piglets set in a police academy from the team behind Green Wing, acquisitions from around the world and a first for ITVX, we’re stripping live comedy from the Edinburgh Comedy fringe.’

Craig Morris, Managing Editor of ITVX added: ‘Comedy has proved to be one of the most popular genres on ITVX, with streaming hours increasing by 80% year-on-year. We already have over 2,500 hours of funny on ITVX – and these programmes will be a welcome addition.’
