Tim Tebow Announces Father’s Passing in Emotional Tribute: ‘He’s Home Forever’

Tim Tebow is mourning the loss of his father, sharing the heartbreaking news with fans in a deeply personal tribute that reflects both grief and faith.

On Friday, April 24, the former quarterback took to Instagram to announce that his father, Bob Tebow, had passed away at the age of 78 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Tebow’s Touching Statement

Alongside a carousel of photos, Tebow honored his dad with a message centered on hope and belief.

“Heaven ushered in a hero of the faith last night as my Dad was welcomed home!” he wrote. “Many will say sorry for your loss but the truth is he’s not lost, we know exactly where he is. He’s home. Forever!”

Tebow continued by recalling a recent conversation that now carries even deeper meaning. “I asked him last week what he looked forward to most about Heaven, and he simply said, ‘Jesus.’ He couldn’t wait to see Jesus face to face. Praise God that his wait is over.”

His message reflected a sense of peace amid loss: “Death has been swallowed up in victory. He’s healed and whole now. So we don’t mourn as those with no hope. See you soon Dad!”

Tebow’s Wife Shared Her Own Touching Message

The emotional tribute quickly drew an outpouring of support, including a heartfelt message from Tebow’s wife, Demi-Leigh Tebow, who shared her own perspective on the man behind the legacy.

“I didn’t get to know the big, strong, tough, character-building man so many speak of,” she wrote. “I got to know the gentle grandpa… the one who loved ice cream, a good laugh and never met a dog he didn’t like.”

She reflected on the impact Bob Tebow had on shaping her husband, adding, “I am grateful for the man who raised the love of my life. The man who shaped him to be strong yet humble, courageous yet kind, bold yet deeply compassionate… a protector, a leader, and above all, a man who loves God and loves people well.”

Acknowledging the weight of the loss, she continued, “‘Grief is the price we pay for love.’ What a privilege it is to have loved someone so dearly that their absence feels this significant… We know heaven is rejoicing as he is welcomed into his forever home… but on this side of heaven, the emptiness is real, and it is heavy.”

Tebow Previously Opened Up About His Dad’s Health

Tebow had been open in the past about his father’s health challenges. In 2016, he shared with People that Bob had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease the previous year.

“My dad has Parkinson’s disease,” Tebow said at the time, recalling the difficult moment he learned the news. “Talking to him that night, I wished that I could have been there with him.”

Despite the diagnosis, Bob Tebow remained committed to his mission work and faith.

“I’m not going to retire from the Great Commission to spread the gospel,” he said. “I may be slower, and I may shake on the way, but I still have work to do.”

Over the years, Tebow made it a priority to spend more time with his father, often seeking his guidance.

“I love being around him,” he shared. “I also go to him for advice about spiritual questions.”
