Traitors expert predicts which celebrity will be ‘delighted’ to leave castle first

The Traitors buff Richard Osman has weighed in on who he thinks could be the first ejected from Celebrity Traitors, after the show unveiled yet another unbelievably stacked cast.

Inverness Airport gave the Met Gala red carpet a run for its money over the weekend, as the upcoming batch of showbiz-y Traitors and Faithful decamped to the Scottish castle.

The roster of names includes Richard E Grant, Maya Jama, Bella Ramsey and Joe Lycett, among a total of 21 famous faces.

Given that the first 2025 series proved to be the biggest terrestrial show of the year, it’s no surprise that the prognosticating is already underway.

In contention is everything from who will be able to correctly spell Industry star Myha’la’s name on a chalkboard, to which celebs will be Claudia Winkleman’s chosen few for the turret.

Self-professed Traitors superfan Osman has now pitched a convincing suggestion for who might be among the first to leave the castle when the show airs later this year.

The line-up has been rammed full of comedians, perhaps in a bid to recreate the television dynamite that was Alan Carr’s castle run

Among them is the double act Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, who host the Sky show Rob and Romesh Vs together. It’s a fact which Osman and his podcast co-host Marina Hyde have speculated could make them vulnerable to suspicious (and straw-clutching) minds.

Speaking on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Hyde said the BBC production team will be wary of making one of Ranganathan or Beckett a Traitor, given that it would be ‘too obvious’.

Osman then pointed out: ‘The problem is, because you’ve got nothing to hold onto in those early weeks, people will assume they’ve done that anyway. So it’s slightly a hiding to nothing.’

He added: ‘Romesh will be delighted to be voted out after a day. He’s so busy.’

Later in the chat, when picking who their crop of the conclave might be, Osman reiterated his belief that Ranganathan and Beckett will both be Faithful – not that that would deter the Beeb from toying with them.

‘I really want the two of them to suspect each other, but both be innocent,’ said Osman. ‘That’s the funniest storyline there, if they’re both assuming that one of them is a Traitor.

‘I imagine some of the buttons they will push, some of the tasks people have to do, they will try to turn Rob and Romesh’s suspicions on each other.’

Among the reactions to the all-star cast line-up, some grumbled about Ranganathan’s omnipresence in the TV industry (in the last few years, he’s fronted shows across the BBC, ITV and Sky, as well as co-hosting the Baftas).

Osman pointed to that as a reason why the Beeb would be reluctant to select the recently robbed Last One Laughing star as a Traitor.

He said: ‘I think if they’re going to have a comic as a Traitor, I don’t think they can have Romesh because they’ll be aware of that ubiquity thing. And if suddenly he’s right in the heart of your thing, it’s an impossibility.’

Celebrity Traitors returns for season 2 on the BBC later this year.
