With the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie continuing into a third month, many are speculating when there might be a breakthrough in the case. So far, no one has publicly come forward with information that could help track down the suspect involved in taking Nancy Guthrie from her home in Tucson, Arizona or locating the victim.
Speaking to The Interview Room, a true crime podcaster has explained why he believes that no witnesses have come forward in the Nancy Guthrie case.
Josh Diaz Gives Opinion On Reason for Lack of Witnesses
True crime podcaster Josh Diaz sat down with homicide detective Chris McDonough, who works with the Cold Case Foundation, to discuss the investigation and gave his opinion on why he believes no one has yet come forward with useful information that could help locate the victim or identify the suspect.
According to Diaz, the likely explanation for why there is a lack of witnesses is due to a fear of self-incrimination.
âI think that itâs more than one person involved in this, and I think the reason that nobodyâs come forwardâand I think that, you know, two to three [suspects]âis that they canât do that without incriminating themselves,â Diaz said.
âThey have to say everything theyâve done, everything that they knowâ¦I donât think it would be that easy for somebody to turn on their co-conspiratorâ¦I think whoever is involved in this is kind of ride or die together now,â he continued.
However, a former FBI Special Agent suggested that there is unlikely to be many people involved in the kidnapping while speaking in the same podcast. Maureen OâConnell explained that if there were multiple people working together, âsomeone would have gone for the money” and betrayed their fellow criminals.
Former Sheriff Kurt Dabb Says Suspect Likely Had Multiple Accomplices in Nancy Guthrie Case
GettyMeanwhile, former Pima County sheriff Kurt Dabb has revealed that he thinks there are multiple accomplices involved in the Nancy Guthrie case.
âI believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,â Dabb said. âThe logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle, in my professional opinion, based on the facts as I know them right now.â
Dabb explained that the sheer amount of work to carry out the crime and stay hidden for so long would require several people being involved in the planning and execution.
He added, âItâs more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice. Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnoiter.â
