WWE fans across the UK are on red alert – as the idea of WrestleMania in London appears more likely than ever before.

Passionate Brits, who are currently trying to get tickets for the company’s Clash At The Castle double header in Glasgow this summer, have been put on notice after London Mayor Sadiq Khan pledged to bring the annual event to the capital city.

He said: ‘London is a world leader in major sports events and has been at the heart of some of the most memorable sporting moments of the last few decades,

‘From the Olympics, to the Lionesses winning the Euros at Wembley, to the Ashes at Lord’s and The Oval, London is where it’s at.’

According to MyLondon, he added: ‘If I’m re-elected on 2 May, I’m determined to go even further and fully cement London’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world.

‘I believe that London has the potential to host the first international WrestleMania.’

His statement will be music to the ears of wrestling fans up and down the country, who have been clamouring for WWE’s biggest event to make it to these shores.

Recently, WWE head honcho Nick Khan – who is president of the sports entertainment giant’s parent company TKO – appeared to play down the idea, although Sadiq’s comments have given people fresh hope.

Appearing on the On The Town podcast, Nick said: ‘We sat down together a few years ago and decided, so the big five premium live events [WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Money in the Bank] should be in the United States or Canada.

‘All of the other events, the goal is to have them from international locations.’

WWE has shown a willingness to go further afield in recent years, and this year’s Clash At The Castle follows a similar event in Cardiff in September 2022, before last year’s Money In The Bank double header at London’s O2 Arena.

It was at the latter premium live event that John Cena made a surprise appearance and threw his support behind the idea of WrestleMania coming to the capital.

Asked about the public plea, WWE boss Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque told Metro.co.uk: ‘As far as WrestleMania goes, it’s tough! I wish it was that easy, I wish it was as easy as saying, “Man, it’s phenomenal there, let’s go.” We’d be going to a lot of places.’

However, he added: ‘We are a global company. We intend to be a global company, we intend to be global. So, never say never for any of it. The intent is there.’
