<p id=”par-1_48″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/you-didnt-know-tennis-star-frances-tiafoe-longtime-girlfriend-ayan-broomfield.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Ayan Broomfield</a> is the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/higher-net-worth-tennis-star-frances-tiafoe-girlfriend-fellow-tennis-player-ayan-broomfield.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>girlfriend of tennis star Frances Tiafoe</a>. The two have been together since 2015, and she’s become one of the most recognizable WAGs in the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/sports/?swcfpc=1″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>sport</a>. But Broomfield is much more than that. She’s an athlete herself and is using her platform for good. </p>

<p id=”par-3_53″>Broomfield was born on Aug. 13, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to her father, Paul, and mother, Denise. She is Black Canadian. Her family background includes Jamaican roots, as her grandparents immigrated to Canada from Jamaica. She has one sister named Kai, and their parents introduced them to tennis at a young age. </p>

<p id=”par-4_99″>Broomfield told <a href=”https://www.hard-court.com/p/ayan-broomfield-ayans-aces” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Hard Court</a>, “One thing about being in Canada is that you have to play tennis six months out of the year indoors. So my first interaction with the exclusivity of tennis was more so through cost and access, because if you didn’t have the money to play tennis, you wouldn’t be able to practice for six months out of the year. And in that sense, I really realized that tennis is for a specific type of person, and if you want to play, you either have to be that good or have the funds to do it.</p>
<p id=”par-5_97″>“My parents always told my sister and I, look, we might not come from the best financial background–they worked very hard for us, but it was a very expensive sport–but what you can make up for [that with] is your work ethic and hard work. So we were able to work with a lot of different sponsors and different clubs to offset the cost. But, if you don’t have that, it is very difficult to play. And that’s kind of what brought me to understanding a little bit more about the disparities in the sport of tennis.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_39″>Broomfield made her WTA Tour debut in 2014 at the Coupe Banque Nationale. At the collegiate level, she and her UCLA teammate Gabby Andrews won the doubles event at the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship, defeating Kate Fahey and Brienne Minor of the Michigan Wolverines.</p>

<p id=”par-7_7″>In 2024, Broomfield started the Ayan Broomfield Foundation.</p>
<p id=”par-8_103″>Speaking about the foundation to <a href=”https://www.essence.com/lifestyle/ayan-broomfield-frances-tiafoe/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Essence</a>, she explained that once she started going on the road to tournaments so much with Tiafoe, she “started to get some brand deals for myself. And I thought to myself, how can I use this level of privilege now to help? And I came up with the idea of, in the main cities that I go for these tournaments, if I am getting a brand deal here and there, have them provide not only stuff for me, but have them provide stuff for the programs and shelters and nonprofits around the world for people that need it.</p>
<p id=”par-9_81″>“So for example, in Melbourne, we were at the Australian Open. I was there and I had Nike donate all of the product that they weren’t using for the Open to some of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Melbourne. In Miami, I have a partnership with a beauty brand, and I spoke with a women’s shelter … One of the things that a nonprofit manager was telling us is that a lot of the women there don’t have sunscreen. </p>

<p id=”par-10_47″>“It’s a little nuanced thing that you wouldn’t think about, but they’re just struggling with a lot of sunscreen outages. And I have a brand deal with a beauty brand that provides sunscreen. So they’re providing 500 units of sunscreen to 500 different women at the shelter.”</p>
<p id=”par-11_56″>Broomfield later launched <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/ayansaces/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Ayan’s Aces</a> aimed at bringing more women of color into the tennis space and to diversify the sport’s audience by creating welcoming spaces where women of color feel seen, valued, and empowered within tennis culture. The organization hosts group outings, tennis clinics, networking brunches, and other social events at major tennis tournaments. </p>
