Some retailers are offering physical copies of the PlayStation 5 Wolverine game for less than the digital version, but Sony’s special edition remains a digital exclusive.
Despite the persistent online backlash towards Sony for its plans to abandon physical video games after 2027, it’s unlikely to make a dent in the company’s finances once its Wolverine game launches on September 15.
Developed by Insomniac Games, the same studio responsible for the modern Spider-Man games, Wolverine is too popular of a character for a new game of his to flop.
Anyone who prefers buying their games physically, though, will want to know that even though Wolverine is still a couple of months away, some retailers are selling physical copies for less than what Sony is asking for the digital version.
As a reminder, Sony is selling Wolverine for £69.99, which is in line with previous PlayStation 5 exclusives such as Saros and Ghost Of Yōtei.
If that’s too high an asking price, you can purchase a physical copy of Wolverine from Smyths for £12 cheaper, at £57.99.

At the time of writing, that’s the best offer we can find, but other alternatives include Amazon and Very, which are selling the game for £62.99.
We also spotted mobile network and broadband provider EE selling the game for £61.99 and it’s even offering a bundle that includes a PlayStation 5 console for £586.98.
Normally, a PlayStation 5 with a disc drive plus a copy of Wolverine would set you back £639.98, so that’s a saving of £53.
No matter how much you pay for the game, all pre-orders come with early unlocks for Wolverine’s classic brown suit and a reflective claws cosmetic as well as one technique point and four PlayStation avatars depicting Wolvie himself, Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and Mystique.
Sony is offering a special edition of the game too, but it’s digital only and costs £79.99. Aside from bundling in the pre-order bonuses from the physical version, it includes five exclusive suits, five exclusive claws, and four technique points instead of one.
In its last State of Play presentation, Sony finally showed off some gameplay for Wolverine, including its hyper violent combat, but it also confirmed that it won’t be open world like the Spider-Man games and instead will be a more linear experience that sees Wolverine travel the globe.
Not much has been said about the story aside from Wolverine investigating mutant abductions and dealing with the mutant hating Bolivar Trask and his army of cybernetically enhanced Reavers.
Wolverine is also set to star in fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, which is why Sony’s running some cross promotion by including Wolverine’s Tōkon suit in the Insomniac game and the Insomniac suit as a free download for Marvel Tōkon on September 1. Spider-Man’s suit from Tōkon is also free DLC for Spider-Man 2.
