3 arrested in Riverdale after 5-year-old boy fatally shot

Three people are in custody as a result of a homicide investigation after a 5-year-old boy was found fatally shot in south suburban Riverdale Tuesday, according to Riverdale police.

Officers responded to a home in the 13900 block of South State Street at 6:05 p.m. after receiving a report that a child had been shot, police said. They found a 5-year-old boy who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as 5 -year-old Roson Garret.

Three family members who were inside the home at the time of the shooting have been arrested, police said. An investigation is ongoing.

“We ask the community to keep the victim, the victim’s loved ones, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Riverdale Police Chief Mark Kozeluh said in a statement. “This tragedy has deeply affected everyone involved in the response.”
